You guys are killing me you liked, Wanted. To me the story was so ridiculous that I was out as soon as I heard the phrase "loom of fate" I know you wanna stay away from spoilers but my god that was horrible. Then there are some glaring plot holes near the end that just completely pulled me out of the movie. That brings me to the action not one time did I have an awe moment. I know alex liked the last scene but to me it felt like a rip from euqilibriam maybe I just want more from my action movies.

i was disappointed in it, but for very specific reasons. i think it should have been a video game.
i wrote a little blog post about it:

I don't know why people get hung up on the loom of fate. i mean would it have been easier to accept if Fate had been giving them direction directly through a disembodied voice, or a shrowded figure? its a wacky plot device. Its not any more dumb then the oracle of delphi.....which was a real thing that people actually believed in and not in a movie.

Just the trailers make me not want to see it as another over the top BS unrealistic cg action slap jolie and some dork in to make her look hotter(I uses that loosely since I don't think she is hot at all but many do) instant ticket sales crap.
Then again I had no idea it was based on a comic as I stopped reading comics as a kid.

It was a fun summer movie. Maybe if we weren't getting so many superhero movies this summer (Batman, Hulk, Ironman, etc.) I would be a lot harder on it, but I had no real complaints about it. I didn't read the comic books, so I can't compare anything between the movie and comics.
Would I buy it once it comes out? No. Would I watch it again? Probably not. It didn't reinvent the action-movie wheel, but it's not like it needed to.

I loved it.
Not from an art stand point but from a mashing my face with popcorn and being entertained stand point it was awesome.

No you are not the only one and thanks for putting your thoughts in a thread all their own like they deserve.

Listen to iFanboy's podcast on the movie. 06.29.2008 - 'Wanted' (http://ifanboy.com/podcasts/audio/06_29_2008_-__Wanted_) They don't like the movie either. I enjoyed the movie, but when the repeated mention of "loom of fate" really get into my head, I do admit there are a lot of missing plot holes in the movie. However, I'll admit that I enjoyed this movie even though there are flaws in the movie.

saw this yesterday and as said above,
flaws... yes
still enjoyed the film... yes
i went into it with really low expectations from some other reviews that i'd seen/heard and was pleasantly surprised.
do have to add though... 'loom of fate'?? come on! really!? and also the comment on iFanboy about 'that line' Morgan Freeman says near the end. kinda took me out of it a bit cos it wasn't anything like the character he'd played throughtout the rest of the film.
all in all, yes a decidedly average film but it did have some good action.

What's the problem with the Loom of Fate? Everyone will be happier if it's an oracle? It's just a medium doing the same thing (let's suppose what about destiny is true in the film), I think using a Loom of Fate is more creative of having another oracle.

I understand what you're saying. Anything could be adorned with the power to show someones fate/the future. Say a ring that channels visions to the person who wears it. and having it as a loom does tie the fraternity into the films version of history where they were originally weavers.
It may have helped to have a little more history about the loom. was it built by some 'being'? did it suddenly start producing the code? Filling out the back-story might have helped people 'believe' the loom could exist (even in a fictitious world).
just a rambling train of thought :)

Totally agree. Except I didn't have any popcorn... :(
I lol'd more in this movie then I did during Get Smart (which says something about the unfunniness of Get Smart). I had a ton of fun watching this movie.

Maybe I was in a funny mood but I was rolling in get smart. Yet the love guru I didn't find those jokes funny in austin powers so a different set of make up and different voice wasn't going to make them funny in love guru.

I refuse to see the love guru (at least in theatres).
If the trailer can't make me even smile, why the hell would the movie make me laugh?

It may have helped to have a little more history about the loom. was it built by some 'being'? did it suddenly start producing the code? Filling out the back-story might have helped people 'believe' the loom could exist (even in a fictitious world). The less information the better. I mean I concede that the idea of a Loom that spits out binary code in the name of fate is entirely rediculous....but then I assume some people would say the same about the virgin birth.
The best thing for me about the Loom idea, is that it transforms the Fraternity from just some guys getting together and deciding to change the world through murder, into a faith based system. The people are all essentially religious fanatics. Its just their reliegion is based on a hitlist woven into a blanket. Its the idea that they have something to believe in that's bigger then themselve and something that also allows them to distance themselves from their own actions.
I really like that aspect of the movie, where essentially Wessley is freed from the trappings of the material world by the trappings of the religion of these killers. To truly become free he has to cast off both.
