What a great ****in movie with a great ending. If you are a fan of The D you will appreciate this movie much more. Anyone else see it? What are your thoughts?

I watched it today and wasn't too impressed. I'm a fan of Tenacious D and found this to be just a tired retread of old jokes and the new music was not as good as the music from the TV show or album.
That said, the opening scene is awesome and there is fun to be had with the movie. I just wanted it to be more.

Yeah, they had a short lived HBO series in the late 90's.

The Halfway House Diner in the movie (I almost called it a film, that was close) was the same one in the two-part episode of Studio 60. That was the only redeaming part of he movie.

You might like the movie but you might not be abel to fully appreciate some of the jokes or some of content in the movie. They also made a couple short films whitch are on thier dvd "the complete masters works".

Yea i wish there was more too, it felt too short to me. Though I have to dissagree with you i think most of the songs on thier new album are great.

From the youtube first six minutes, I got the feeling that this was a rock opera, like, all music the entire time. A Rock N Roll musical, if you will. Was that just the beginning, or was the whole movie like that?

There is a lot of music but it's not all music all the time. I probably would have preferred the rock opera approach.
And those first six minutes are by far the best part of the movie.

Okay, so I'm reviving this thread since I just saw Pick of Destiny. A buddy of mine works at a local theater, so we got in for free. We were also an hour early. We had planned on seeing Stranger Than Fiction, but he wanted to see this instead, and since he got the tickets, I didn't argue. (to pass the time, we sat through a half hour of Happy Feet. But that's another story)
Yeah, so it wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible. I enjoyed it, for the most part, but can't really recommend it to anyone else unless you just LOVE Jack Black. I like him, and that's all. However, seeing Dave Grohl as Satan was awesome, since he rocked the drums, and can sing (and didnt even sound like the Foo Fighter we've come to know.)
So yeah, not at the top of my 2006 movie list, but certainly not on the bottom.

I've boycotted Jack Black after his personally insulting comments in "School of Rock."

I've been a subscriber to Liam Lynch's vidcast Lynchland for a while and really got into Liam Lynch and what he does. I also watched all his shorts he did with the D, and was impressed.
I never really listened to them before, but this movie was great, Liam did a great job, as did KG and JB. The cameos were great too, and I really enjoyed the music. The car chase scene was pretty funny, as was the opening scene. It's a great "stoner buddy comedy" or whatever you prefer to call it, and I plan on getting it on DVD when it is released.
If you're not into the genre, this isn't going to impress you, so you should probably stay away.

Im kinda cautous to see it. I loved the first cd and the show. To be honest I like Kage more than JB and I think thats one aspect that Ill be dissapointed by the movie. It seems completly Jack Black-centric when in their prevous material it was more of a balance. I mean in terms of marketing, ya Jack Black is more known than Kyle Gass, but a lot of the music and humor came from the play off of eachother. So maybe, and I know this is the sentance that just makes me look like a tool, Im more of a fan of their stuff before they got as big as they did. I know that sentance is just horrible, but this Jack Black mania has forced me to say it.
EDIT: When I say I like KG more than JB I mean this in miniscule terms, really love em both obviously.

I was looking forward to this movie after some good reviews, including, uh, Jon's Step-Mom. But I was diappointed - it just didn't go anyway. The first few minutes with the young Jack Black were the best in the movie and it just went downhill from there. There were some good bits and I liked the 'Tribute' reference, but overall I'd say this wasn't very good. My sister, whom I went withe to the movie, is a big Jack Black fan, though she's never heard any Tenacious D, and she absolutely hated it.

My thoughts on the movie are this. The opening is great. The end is great. The middle.... if you have seen any of the D HBO shows you have seen this. I was depressed that there was only two or three songs that were any good. Don't get me wrong though. Being a D movie it still rocks the socks off of alot of films. It just wasn't as epic as it should have been.
