That's not a Wiiware game, it's the original version emulated through the homebrew channel.

Eh, it's cool and all but if I still wanted to play the game in the original form I would play it on the N64. However what I really want is an XBLA/PSN/whatever version with online play added. Nothing else could be changed and I would still buy it if it had online.

A friend of mine hosted a Goldeneye night recently at his house (he has a very decent retro console collection). Being a huge Goldeneye fan back in the day, I got really excited to give it another spin since even though I hadn't played it in years, I still held it in very high regard.
However, after playing it for 5 minutes I was highly disappointed! The single analog stick controls are awful with very little room for customization, the framerate drops to a crawl whenever something explodes and the environments are boring and bland (I really thought the N64 graphics were better than that).
It was one of those times that, like many of my favorite childhood movies I've since re-watched, I wish I had left it alone so it could still shine on in my memory as one of my favorite gaming experiences.
Anyway, that's Uncle Fashions tale of yesteryear for this week, tune in next week as I complain about how the kids of today have it so easy now that games no longer have to be loaded from tapes...

At the time goldeneye was great, but yeah... I totally agree that it doesn't hold up now. I really don't know how we all functioned with one analog stick.
If I ever decided to any play older games like goldeneye again, it will be for only 5 minutes and just for a few laughs.

I remember thinking at the time that the controls were amazing, like, I can walk by pushing the stick a little, or run by pushing it all the way ZOMG!!!11!one!
But having forward and backward movement, and looking side to side mapped onto the joystick, then looking up and down, and moving side to side mapped onto the face buttons is just plain confusing after getting used to a dual stick controller. Plus It wouldn't let me invert the Y axis which is a must for me.
Having said that, Mario 64 still rocks the casbah!

I still play GoldenEye occasionally, and it may look like crap but its still a fun game. I know how I survived with one analog stick was my years of playing Doom, Duke Nukem 3D, and Quake and you didn't have to really aim. It stuck onto enemies and no one really jumped.
If I wanted to get a homebrew version of GoldenEye and wait like 5 minutes to start it, I'd pull my 64 out from under my bed, plug in the system and play it. The game definitely needs an upgrade. Wasn't there like a Half-Life 2 mod with the game?

Whats the story on this homebrew channel Wes? Have you done the hack personally? is it hard?

Isn't this kinda like saying "the entire SNES, NES, TG-16, etc. library now available for PSP" ?

Yeah, but are there videos of all of those games, proving it? ;)

Yeah, however there's been a big fan desire to see Goldeneye on the Virtual Console, but as Rare own the rights and they're a Microsoft shop it's never going to happen. So it's a big deal that people can play it this way.

It couldn't be much easier. You need a copy of Zelda for Wii and an SD card. You download a new save file for Zelda, put the homebrew channel stuff on your SD card, load up Zelda and talk to the guy in front of you. Next thing you know the channel is installed and you can run homebrew from the SD card. The Lucasarts Scumm games work pretty darn well.

I need to get myself a copy of Zelda, but I'm planning to rent one just for this purpose. Sounds easy from what I've read, see above.
