I guess I'm the lucky one. Just got back from Outback and have neighbors all around lighting them off. There was supposed to be rain, but it never happened.

Raining here too but my town did fireworks yesterday. I was planning on lighting off my own little bit of contraband tonight though but I guess it will have to wait.

From the NY Times:Mr. Helms saw himself as a simple man — he even used the word “redneck” to describe himselfAt least he fucking knew it.
Happy fifth of July, now.

Happy fifth of July, now.
Dietrich Bader in Simpsons spring break in florida episode when Marge comments on his 'red neck'. "well tahnkyou ma'am, you should see it in summer when the sand flies really have at it".
4th of July was never really an important date to our forefathers, the dec of indieness was finished on july 2nd and that was considered the historious date, and the colonies signatories didn't start signing it til august 2nd and didn't finish signing it til 1781, ironically, the first state was the last to sign (delaware). It wasn't even considered a country after the declaration but a loose confederation of 13 independent soveriegnties, and was referred to in the Articles of Confederation as, ". . . a firm league of frienship.." . Things weren't really grooving til the constitution got put in play, 12 years later or so.
BTW the country was referred to twice within one sentece, in the delcaration of independece a, ..." these United Colonies ", and " the united States of America". The final published version of the delcaration referred to the country as, " the Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America".... but was then on officially known as the "united States of North America"... united left un-capatalised, as it was merely a descriptive term. "states" never caught on either, even after the declaration, and it was mainly referred to as, "united Colonies of North America".
America was named by a French man after an Italian, Amerigo Vespucci, a biznessman who ran a ship supply store (columbus was a customer of his). He did make make 3 or 4 trips to the 'new world', but only as a passenger or lowranked officer, and never set foot on the land mass that is USA (just like columbus never did). Someone f'ed the sht up though and wrote in letters that Vespucci was not only a captain of these voyages to the 'new world', but that he discovered it. This mistake was brought back to life by the Frenchie who was making new maps of the world and was impressed with the bs he read in the letters describing Vespucci. He translated Amerigo to latin Americus and then the female form, America, to match the female names, Europe and Asia. Supposedly though, Amerigo Vespucci was the brother of Simonetta Vespucci the model used by Botticelli for the painting, 'Venus'.
In case y'all can't tell, I'm no expert, nor am I looking this up, I just read a great book once or twice.

Why is everyone hating on Shandavio? I don't understand the problem, it's sort of lame and immature in my humble opinion.

Because most of his posts so far are him trying to tell us how we lack etiquette for not doing things his way.
