Guy/Gals,

I know this is way off topic but I'm desperate, TRS Fans, you're my only hope.

wmpnetwk.exe is tieing up all my resources, it can easily climb to 600mg of ram.

From what I can find out it is due to a corrupt avi file. I have been told to go into services and disabled wmpnetwk.exe but then I can not use windows media sharing with my 360, I then tried tervirsty but the video quality wasn't to my liking. Has anyone here fixed this issue, what was the offending avi file, or how did you fix it???

Disable Windows Media Player Sharing and Discovery under the Library tab.

First page in Google, 45 seconds.

Then streaming to the 360 becomes disabled, I need another option.

I want to be able to stream to my 360 after solution.

I want my cake and eat it too.

You can't. wmpnetwk.exe controls the networking of WMP.

I find it difficult to believe that it is designed to work in this fashion. It worked great for 6 months and now it doesn't so that tells me that there is something wrong with wmpnetwk.exe and that it is not functioning correctly. I'll keep looking and keep experimenting with other options, thanks for your input.

There are no other options. That's what controls the networking services for WMP. If you disable it, you can't use the network. It's simple as that.

Take 5 minutes searching Google for Chrissake.

There are other options for streaming on the network. Just take a look around, I can't think of them off the top of my head, but you do not have to use WMP to do it.

Find the corrupt movie file and move it out of My Videos?

try this: http://tversity.com/home from what I can see, it bypasses WMP all together and it looks to be free.

Hmmm....

Alot of snarkey comments in the TRS forums today.....

To the poster who said move the affending file out of My Videos, that would seem to solve the problem but I have no way of knowing which file it is, unless you know ho to check for that???

As for looking at Google for christ sake, I of course did that, thank you for your input.

As I said in my orginal posting I tried tversity but the quality was not to my liking. To be clear I was trying to find a way to FIX WMP11, not disable it. I found the registry problem on another forum and fixed the issue.

You guys are great, thanks for all you help and valued input.

Hey share the link to that solution, please. I use my 360 to watch TRS and other shows as well. I'd like to know what I can do should I hit such a problem.

Use Registry Mechanic 7.0

I have been looking over the last two weeks using Google and came up with little but a smart ass comment made here made me think of something different. I wonder if the offending file isn't the problem at all, but more the file name, I remembered that older OS's had problem with long file names and that they cured that issues with xp(i think) So, sure enough, between the folder name and the file name I have one really long string and Windows was having trouble with it. So I shortened the name, and then I ran RM and fixed that problem so it wouldn't happen again.

Gee, glad I didn't do something stupid and disable it.

Dude, I hope you didn't think I was being snarkey. I was being serious, I missed the part about you not knowing how to identify the offending file. However, maybe there is a tool out there to search your library for a corrupted file. Do you have a lot of videos on your PC?

I know this is an old thread but, this info might help someone, it was mentioned someone wanted a tool to assist the finding of the faulty AVI

If you get this sort of problem, and are unable to find which AVI is the cause you can:
Download Microsofts sysinternals process monitor program.(freeware, search google) it will tell you what each process/program on your machine is doing.
install the software and run it.
Find the wmpnetwk.exe process in its list, then filter the results so just that process is displayed.
You can then easly see which file its getting stuck on, as it will have many entrys of the same AVI.
move that AVI out of the shared folder and your sorted.
Hope this helps someone.
