Most of the things should be available in Elements. He's not really doing anything advanced on any of the shows so far. Also, I know for a fact my friend watched the first couple episodes and then replicated the effects in Elements, because he doesn't have CS2 either.

This is just a generalization but Elements is pretty much PS without all the "PRO" tools. If you are just a casual Photoshop user Elements should work fine and a lot of what Bert does should translate. When you get to the level that he's working at you'll probably be able to afford the full CS3 (or whatever version is out then) without a problem.

Hello. I was wondering if it would be a big deal if Pixel Perfect did a few shows on using photoshop elements. Or have they already done this? I suppose it is possible that I failed to notice such events transpire. I am not wealthy enough to make such a large purchase of something like photoshop cs3 or god forbid CS3 extended. As such seeing some episodes where following along in Photoshop elements would be appreciated.

Sorry that was the best translation i can offer. Webaniese is a very different language and what i wrote is not word for word... but essentially expresses what the OP wrote. :)

Anyway it's unreasonable to ask Burt to make a few episodes for photoshop elements, elements is a surprisingly watered down version of photoshop. I also believe Burt started this show for the creative professional, these are people who don't use elements.

Actually elements is a very powerful tool that shouldn't be takin lightly! Their are alot of professionals that use elements. Elements, can do pretty much everything the CS's can, heck alot the stuff on this show can be done with elements. Sometimes you may have to do a few extra steps to achieve a certian effect, it's all just a matter of playing around. I haven't gottin a chance to try it yet, but it seems alot of the CS features are going into photoshop elements 6.0 such as the quick selection tool! I don't think adobe ever would make a cheap "watered down" version of photoshop. Btw King, if theirs an effect you're having problems with trying to do it in elements rather then CS3 (like following along in an episode of pixel perfect), try asking about an alternitave step for it on the boards. I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with what you can achieve in elements!

I have CS2 and wouldn't trade it for Elements, ever. That said, I have to use Paint.NET here at work because there is no business reason for me to have full blown PS, and I would be very happy to have Elements. The first version or two were a bit weak but they have added more and more to it every version.

Personally I think this was very smart of Adobe. So many people want to use Photoshop but can't afford it. Elements gives many people all the tools they need at a very affordable price. (unless you are a cheap ass pirate)

As for Pixel Perfect; lately Bert (and Dr. Brown) have focuses on some pretty version specific items, but earlier episodes were done in such a way as to educate the viewer about the 'basic' tools of Photoshop. These tools translate pretty well across versions and even across different tools.

If you want a step by step tutorial you'll have to use what Bert uses. But if you are willing to use your brain and some creativity you should be able to figure out how to do many of the techniques Bert uses, regardless of version.

elements is a watered down version, targeted at people who want to pick the program up and work with there photos right off the bat, then later get creative.

really if people want a low cost alternative to photoshop, they don't get elements they get gimp. Specificly gimp is FREE. Very functional too. Elements is for people to pick up instantly, and learn over time. Photoshop assumes you know what your doing. This distinction is important.
