so i tried to get a Wii at my local best buy (down the street from fenway park in landmark center) since i read on digg that some places were holding some Wiis (and ps3's) for black friday...got up and out the door by 4am and was waiting in line til 5am when they opened the doors...got in and they never even had them in stock...i could have drove to other best buys around the area, but i doubt i would actually find a store with any stock left

I would rather stay home today but I have to go to work and I work at gamestop...leave in just a bit and stay till 10pm but I rather that than have been there on opening at 7 am >_<
I don't get peoples insanity just to buy shit..most of it will end up in a closet forgotten in a week or so like every year.

Today is the most retarded American consumer whore shopping day of the year and it's not uncommon for retailers to hold hot items so they have them in stock for this day. We've done that at pretty much every retail store I've ever worked for.
I use to love working Black Friday morning at my old jobs. It was so fast paced and hectic but I always enjoyed it. When I was a manager at a KB Toys we'd have a line of people snaked around all the aisles and the perimeter and all the way back down the mall hallway. It was impossible to shop in that kinda environment so I'd just go down the line asking what they were there for and tried fetching it for them as best as I could. I was always amazed though that some douche bag would get up at 3am to line up in a store for 3hrs to save $5 off a play-doh set. I understand someone who might be at a Best Buy waiting to get 1 of 10 TV's for $500+ off but for the most part the whole Black Friday thing is ridiculous, especially considering that you can usually get a better deal online if you shop around.

It just depends, as you mentioned if it's a higher ticket item then you can still make out with a great deal, even better than online.
I went with my brother, saw a late movie and he stood in Best Buy's line for about 2 hours. The line was crazy, wrapped around the building. They handed out tickets for their "hot items" which lessened the confusion. Still on the inside it was a mad house and unorganzied. We to shuffled from one line to another, then another..it took about another 2 hours to snage the 51-inch HD he was looking for.

i got up at 5 am and went to mu local virgin megastore and got 20 dollars off 360 games so I bought all the games I don't have yet and another hd-dvd player for use on my vista machine.
I got up today at 2:30 so i could get to best buy for the 50in hdtv. Luckily I somehow managed to get one of the 'tickets' for it and actually got the TV home in peace later on in the day.
Personally for me the lines were a lot longer this year. Like the line for best buy went from the doors all the way down to a Walmart nearby...which is insanely long.

There's no reason for Best Buy to hold onto Wii's for the 26th. The biggest shopping days of the year are Friday and Saturday and they want people in their stores buying their shit these days, the 26th is nothing.

Best of luck, everybody who can should be buying a Wii. But if you don't get one tomorrow don't worry, Nintendo claims they're shipping 100,000-200,000 units a week until Christmas. So just call around this week and you'll find one.

If you go to the sites that have black friday ads up weeks in advance, you can plan ahead and get some really good deals. Last year I bought a gig of ram for 50 bucks, a wireless keyboard and mouse for 20, a wireless USB adapter for 3, a nice 19 inch LCD monitor for 200, 50 pack of dvds for 10 bucks, and a bunch of other stuff I can't remember. I was in the process of upgrading my pc as well as building a decent computer for my dad. It all just depends. But yeah, I figure a KB Toys would be pretty worthless.

Oh yeah, if you guys have games you were thinking about trading into an EB/Gamestop they're giving an extra 10% when you do 3, 20% for 4, and 30% for 5 or more.
You also get an extra 20% if you apply your trade-ins towards Wario Ware for the Wii, which every Wii owner should buy.
They're selling premium 360's with Call of Duty2 and a year warranty for 399.99 aswell. I think all these deals end on Sat.

Where are you guys getting all this info? Word of mouth/speculation or from employees of the stores? There's just no reason for stores like that to hold systems and if they were doing it they'd lie about it. There weren't any kinda of promotions going on with the Wii so it makes no sense. I work for that company and we weren't instructed to hold any items other than a certain number of 360s because we had a 2 day offer in our ad. We had plenty on hand but if people wanted to buy one we'd tell them about the deal comming up on Friday, if they didn't care we'd sell it right then and there. It's more money to the company to not sell them with all the extras thrown in for free. Our district didn't even get our second supply of Wiis in until yesterday (Friday) and they were only 4-8 per store and sold out immediately.
P.S.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance is only $20 bucks on the PS2 for the weekend.
