I think this all depends on the type of people you hang out with.

I have a group of friends that inadvertently say stuff that's so laced with innuendo, a la Tobias Funke, that's it's kind of hard to resist 'that's what she said' - ing them.

i prefer the more familiar "that's what your mom said". it lets the person know that not only are you close but that you were really listening to what they had to say.

But it makes a good cruel comeback when people say that to me as I hate the that's what she said and what your mom crap jokes.
And my mother would actually laugh at the joke she would not be offended,she is cool.

I don't mind the "That's what she said" phrase too much. No one I know can do it well so I've just accepted that it's a bad joke all around and I move on. It's when friends start to use it too much in one evening that I start to have the problem.

Speaking of overused stupid stuff, I have a couple of buddies that go over this same thing everytime they are together. It goes like this:

Buddy 1: Hey, your mom called
Buddy 2: Oh yeah? What did she say?
Buddy 1: She said...you're gay!!

Its retarded but its honestly funny every time. It all started when Buddy 2's mom actually did call once, and he didn't believe that Buddy 1 wasn't trying to make a joke by saying that his mom had called.
