Bungie's next game announcement was put on hold for now. They planned on announcing a game at E3, but the publisher shut down the plans today.

I'm very interested in the reasoning of why the publisher would block it. Perhaps they want another big reveal later at TGS.

I'm also curious who the publisher is, as that info is not stated. Also TGS is doubtful, since Bungie is very western, why would they show a game for the first time to an eastern audience?

Also, there was a countdown on Bungie.net to the announcement so there was some prep work for the marketing of the game, it's all just weird.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of the reveal.

Either way, I have a feeling that Luke Smith is going to make an appearance on 1Up Yours tomorrow, and I'm sure he'll have some sort of a colourful explanation for the podcast.

The bungie guys were at the Sony keynote, who's taking bets on SCEA being the publisher?

It'd be interesting to see Bungie go to Sony's side, but from this news, it's not likely:

I pushed him on the lack of presence for the series and asked him if we should be worried about the no-show of Ensemble Studio’s real-time-strategy game “Halo Wars.” Not only did Mattrick say not to worry and that announcements would be coming, he also said that Microsoft is working with Bungie on a “Halo” game.

Microsoft owns the Halo IP, so they're the publisher.

Can Bungie not make up a new franchise or reinvigorate an old one? Halo sucked (at least the first two that I did play.. Never tried the third) and there are too many Halo games.. Well, I guess some people are happy about that.. But whatever. Bungie should just join EA and make it a yearly thing. Halo 09 FTL.

( Pulled from http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/07/16/e308-don-mattrick-confirms-that-bungie-is-developing-new-halo/ )

In an interview with MTV Multiplayer blog Microsoft's head of Xbox Don Mattrick confirmed that Bungie is working on a new Halo title. Mattrick told MTV that Bungie's next title wasn't revealed because Microsoft felt they had enough content and excitement surrounding its other announcements (Sup, Final Fantasy XIII).

When pressed on the lack of Halo news, specifically regarding Ensemble Studio's real-time title, Halo Wars, Matrrick told MTV not to worry and announcements would be coming and then let it slip that Bungie is working on a Halo title.

Matrrick then clarified that the Bungie project is not related to Halo Wars or the the long-announced Peter Jackson project, codenamed Halo: Chronicles

Its good to at least hear something about this. I hope its that Ghost Recon-style game that has been rumored for a while. I wonder if that's related to this "Halo: Blue" thing thats supposed to be out in September.

Or they didn't? You are assuming that Bungie isn't lying to us, or in a twist Bungie is becoming a publishing company and told itself not to announce it. In any case, the whole thing sounds fishy to me. Why come out and say "Our publisher told us we can't tell you about this awesome super exciting game" Sounds like a PR stunt to me.

Apparently Gamespot did a story on Bungie's new squad based Halo game. Microsoft put the kabash on the reveal because they don't want the biggest story out of E3 being about a game that won't be playable for another year. Made sense when they said it on the Giant Bombcast.

That def makes sense, the last thing they want right now is people's attention being distracted from Too Human, Gears, and Fable
