Ok, so I picked up the killing joke because I'm going to see Dark Night opening night and it sounded really good from the latest episode (My first comic book purchase :D). Dan described it perfectly as "rimplified" and just how it really couldn't be experienced the same in any other way than a comic.

Anyway, it was amazing and I am glad that I will have a better understanding of the Joker going into the movie. However, I do have one question... and I feel really stupid... but I don't get the joke at the end... :( I have read it over and over and I don't get it. Can someone please explain the punchline?

Please post here, or PM me if you don't want to post a spoiler.

The joke is that they're both insane. The first guy thinks the other guy can walk accross his flashlight beam. The second guy, rather than questioning the solidity of said beam is instead more concerned that the first guy will remove the supposedly load bearing beam of light as he crosses.

A sane individual would have rather remarked at how the flashlight beam was not actually suitable for use as a walkway.

Once one understands these factors, enjoyment of the joke may commence.

haha! I get it now! ...I totally misread "beam". I was thinking like a wooden beam was out there and I was confused why the other guy didn't take it or if he had just laid it there for the other guy after he jumped. thank you very much!

That's way more funny than the joke is.

If that confuses you do not pick up anything written by Grant Morrison. J/K, congrats of your first comics purchase, there is a lot more to sink your teeth into and I would recommend checking out iFanboy here on Rev3.

Thanks.

Does anyone recommend any other Batman comics? I want to read more after finishing this one. I guess I don't know anything about how they are chronologically lined up, but I can look into that. Just looking for some suggestions on other really good Batman stories.

Id say watch this:

The three listed (The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One or Arkham Asylum) in the title, are must buys. Get those for sure, if you want a huge list of recommendations of various titles see the links below.
