Hey guys I don't know if you have covered this or not. But I just got a new to me, clean, 700 gig hard drive. It is a SATA drive and I am running Vista. I can get it to power up and I can feel it spin but Windows isn't recognizing it. I am doing something wrong or what can I do to get it to see the drive? Thanks you guys rock and I love the show.

Well, there could be a few things. 1st, make sure that SATA port that it's plugged into is enabled in the BIOS. If that's not it, let me know...

Jumpers on the hard drive might need to be configured to run on your computer. I bought a 3gbit sata drive for my computer but my systemboard only supported 1.5 gbit, so i switched the jumper to do 1.5 and my computer was able to recognize the drive.

Yes the cords are all plugged in. I had a different one plugged in and changed them out and didn't unplug anything from the mother board till today. I changed the 1.5 gig to 3 gig like the one that came with the tower and changed plugs on the motherboard and still nothing. So I am dumbfounded with it.

You never mentioned formatting it. Most drives come unformatted. Hell even if you did format it, just right click My Computer, click manage, and check if the drive shows up under Disk Management. If it does then you need to format it or it has bad sectors, if it doesn't well that's a very bad thing. Either the hard drive's mainboard is damaged or something is wrong with the computer's hardware or software.

Yippy that did it. I got the hard drive from a friend and he didn't mention that it needed to be formatted. Thanks for all the help.
