Don't play this with any Roleplayers ;) They might think of the Good Old D4 and have you there :)

Its a very nice Scam though as most people just won't get it ^^

I suppose I can't be a judge of how people can/can't solve the puzzles. I have seen these puzzles before so it is a tad hard not to go come on it is so simple!

It's really not that obvious when you present the matches flat on the table. If you simply told them you can stand the matches up then it's easy. Of course, after you see how it's done, it's all easy :P

I picked it after a minute or so just jotting down shapes with a pencil and paper (before I saw the answer of course :p), *posted something that I just realised wasn't even true, but the point is I solved the thing and it's time to go to bed*. Its also 5:20am so its kind of like I'm drunk... (Not really, I'm feeling a lot less violent and horny than when I'm drunk)

Before Brian was even done explaining it I had it figured out (less than 30 seconds). That's about the only puzzle I'm good at though...

Same here. He hadn't even put in the extra rules yet that I thought making it 3d would probably work... I don't think I can use this one =(

Still love your show though!!

I don't think I can use this one either. I figured it out before he started and I am horrible at puzzles. I almost hope someone tries pulling this on me sometime. I can look smart =)

I like that you left this in as an episode and didn't ignore it and just find another victim. :) Master defeated!

Yeah, that was a tough decision to stick to... part of me wanted to rely on softer volunteers and edits <cough! cough! criss angel! cough!> but I guess getting shot down in flames from time to time is just another part of the free beer process.

I came up with a different solution.

Lay 4 matches on the table in a square.

Make an X in the middle of the square with the remaining two matches.

Each match in the X divides the square into 2 equilateral triangles that meet the requirements.

Those are isosceles triangles. If you're bisecting a square diagonally, you're creating two 45-45-90 right triangles, which means the hypotenuse is longer than the other two sides.

...

Good God, why do I know that?

I think his advantage was that he was sober.

I wasn't that sober. I was two or three beers in at that point. One with dinner, one at the bar, and then the one in the scam. I just hide my inebriation well. I also think decently in 3D. I may have had it faster if my brain wasn't stuck on the Star of David we tried earlier.

That said, the point of these scams is n't that NO one will get them, but like in any good scam, you choose your marks carefully. Every puzzle can be broken by someone in the bar... you just try and figure out who that person is and go for the other guy/girl.

Ok, so this is one of the episodes I've watched already (just got my ipod on Monday, and on Tuesday my buddy jeffrey told me about Scam School), and I used it Thursday night at my local bar.

Andddddddd, YAY! Thank you, Brian! I got a free Dos XX and Jager Bomb from my bartender. :) hehe

I can't wait to catch up on all the episodes and see how many more free drinks I can get without doing my usual thing of showing a lot of cleavage. heh

Wow, this is old, I totally missed this episode.

Granted, I do have a Ph.D. in mathematics which required me to answer questions regarding algebraic topology and are familiar with D& dice. But, I read the title of the podcast and a solution appeared immediately in my head.

I thought, "the tetrahedron has four vertexes six edges and four faces."

To be fair, my wife who only has a Master's degree solved it in about 45-seconds without the aid of matchsticks.

I watched the episode on the 6 match 4 triangle puzzle and decided to try it.

My results:

Attempts:
1. free beer
2. free beer
3. Hot girl's phone number and a shot
4. free beer
5. didn't want to take challenge, but still bought me a beer for the answer
6. free beer
7. free beer
8. 2 free beers (showed two cuties this time, didn't get the numbers)
9. free beer

also did the whiskey and water trick on the bar tender, got a free beer on that one also

all in all, a great way to get a beer, beer is cheaper down here compared with where BB is doing his runs.

Peace all, I am going to go call #4 now, Cheers

BIG time congrats! I'd like to think that's something special about "scam school", is that it's something that inspires you to go out and give it a try (excluding the episodes involving crime :-)
