I have a question about the waterproof anything. How does it works with USB and power plug on a laptop?

Thanks guys.:)

Not much is known by the looks of it, but what do you mean, they would just work. It's a simple coding.

Oh, man. Did the make up guy not show up? Veronica looks like a man in this episode. It's quite disturbing.
I'd love to see what's behind the counter. I have the feeling the hosts aren't wearing pants.

You should watch the live show --- all of your suspicions come true. :D:D.

Hello, Patrick and Roger!
In response to the viewer question from "David" regarding his overheating ATI 4950's, he could also download and install RivaTuner, a small utility that will let him override the fan settings contained in the video card BIOS (it does not alter the vid BIOS in any manner), I use it with my cards and find setting the fan to 69% works like a charm! Make sure that it is set to start when Windows starts!.

Hey gang... just watched this podcast tonight (I recently bought an iPod Touch). In this episode you mentioned Pandora that I had never heard about before. It sounded great so I went to my computer to check it out but was greeted with the following message.
-----
Dear Pandora Visitor,
We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative.
We believe that you are in Canada (your IP address appears to be --deleted for my privacy--). If you believe we have made a mistake, we apologize and ask that you please contact us at
If you are a paid subscriber, please contact us at and we will issue a pro-rated refund to the credit card you used to sign up. If you have been using Pandora, we will keep a record of your existing stations and bookmarked artists and songs, so that when we are able to launch in your country, they will be waiting for you.
We will be notifying listeners as licensing agreements are established in individual countries. If you would like to be notified by email when Pandora is available in your country, please enter your email address below. The pace of global licensing is hard to predict, but we have the ultimate goal of being able to offer our service everywhere.
We share your disappointment and greatly appreciate your understanding.

Of course they aren't wearing pants, it's San Francisco.

I mean the USB port (power etc). As i understood electricity does not travel through the the coating, so the port on the laptop will not be coated for water or they will not work.
Maybe i'm missing something ;)

Yes, unfortunately, Pandora has been unavailable outside of the US (even in Canada) for quite some time now. As I understand it, this is mostly due to copyright issues. Having used it before it became unavailable up here, I do agree that it is a great service to those who can still access it.

Not that I don't like Veronica but I really liked the show with Roger as Co-Host... anyone else?

Yeah, I agree the show was pretty good sans Veronica. Tekzilla is just awesome like that :)

See if you can use last.fm (http://www.last.fm). They rely on users tagging the tracks.
amazing episode.. especially the waterproof coating, Lots of Qs are in my mind like whats happens to ports, fingerprint reader ? and the ventilation.... etc.. I'll wait till its launched
I'll coat everything when this comes! its so cool
Keep it up!

Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me either. If it's a non-conductive polymer then ports, battery connections and buttons (such as the keyboard and number pads on those phones) would inherently fail.

Also guy, you are mistaken about the Toast 9 BD plugin. The plugin allows to burn Blu-Ray.
From the show notes:
Turns out there's a $20 plugin for Toast 9 Titanium that'll play Blu-ray disks on OS X... here's the spiel from Macworld. Thanks Kyle!
From the linked Macworld article:
Blu-ray video discs can't be played on the Mac, but with this new software you can burn AVCHD video, for example, that you can play back on a Blu-ray Disc player, such as a Sony PlayStation 3.

Several Comments:
1) N routers have backwards compatibility with g, so one might want to upgrade router to n even if all the clients are g.
2) Instead of getting a 3g router to use with a PCMCIA card, why not just get a windows mobile phone with wi-fi and run a program called WMWIFI router or similiar. Boom instant wifi access point everywhere.
3) Its not voltage draw, its current draw

When comparing electricity to water.
Voltage is the amount of force being applied to the water (electricity) to push it through the pipe. The higher the voltage the more likely you will get shooked./
Amperage is the volume of water (electricity) going through the pipe. water in a garden hose has less amperage than a tidal wave at the beach coming at you.
Resistance is the size of the pipes and that of the valves being open. smaller usually equates in to more pressure. Like when you put you thumb on the end of a waterhose and then the water shoots further.
Brownouts that is low voltage and high amperage can be just as dangerous to a circuit as high voltage or a power surge if the pipes can not handle the volume.

Great episode! Roger did a great job filling in for Veronica this week. And that water-proofing was amazing, it blew my mind away!
One of the better episodes in awhile, they are all good but this one is even better.

Its unlikely the overheating is causing the PC to reboot, I've got a single 4850 as well and the cards do naturally run hot because of the low fan speeds, but even at load I haven't had any problems leaving the fan on auto (as the cards themselves should be able to hit something like 120+ degrees before they start shutting down). So what Roger mentioned about the PSU being the problem is most likely the issue that "David" was having.

a buddy of mine owns a custom rackmount system company in san jose and he probably has some cases that he no longer needs. if anyone is looking for a real sturdy case that provides real good ventilation give them a call. the website is infi-tech.com and ask for glenn. i apologize for the shameless plug, but glenn is a good friend of mine and i see this as a win-win opportunity for everyone.

The show is totally wrong in their statement "WiFi upgrade fun: 802.11n wireless router vs. an 802.11g notebook? Rob, you'll need an 802.11n WiFi card for your notebook for it to work, and, yes, it should boost the distance and speed you can connect from. "
A N router will work perfectly with an older G or B card. Of cource you can not benifit from the speed of N, for that you need both a sender and a reciver running N, BUT you will benifit from the range of the new N routers. Not the whole range you could get with N in you computer as well but it will improve. Have set up a lot of those routers and works and improves signal strenghts almost every time

It's still quite possible that overheating is the issue. It's not merely a matter of the heat produced by the card, but the system as a whole, and whether or not the heat is sufficiently dissipated through ventilation.
For instance, my bro and I both run nVidia 7800GTs. Our temps on the cards themselves are about the same. However, his computer would reboot under certain gaming situations. We added a slot fan, and voila. The heat from his video card was essentially fanned directly over his motherboard chipset which would cause the chipset to overheat, and thus reboot. So, the card itself wasn't the direct culprit as much as a contributor to a bad ventilation scenario.

For the first time today, I experienced my computer restarting because of high power usage. Maybe it was because I activated Hyper Threading...
