Hey guys: after a year on the road with Mr. Jonny Zavant, I'm now looking for a new right hand man to join me on the road. Jonny Z is launching his own solo career, which means I need someone willing to spend a few hundred days touring around the United States (and occaisonally internationally), giving me a hand with my show.

Post any questions about the position you have here, but here are the essentials:

POSITION: based out of Austin, TX, I'm looking for a male interested in joining me on the road to assist with live performances, help shoot Scam School and other web videos, and perform administrative duties when back home in Austin.

• RESPONSIBILITIES:
.....• ON THE ROAD
..........• Assist navigation to shows
..........• Move trunks/luggage
..........• Fill role of stage assistant, setting up and breaking down the stage
..........• Understand airport travel
..........• Operate on little sleep
.....• AT HOME
..........• Resupply perishables for show
..........• Repack show
..........• Manage mailings
..........• Run Personal Errands
..........• Be available for other unspecified duties

• REQUIREMENTS:
.....• Be in, or able to relocate to Austin, TX or Orlando, FL (the schedule is erratic, so even if you just have a few friends with couches to crash on or a distant relative, you should probably be fine)
.....• Be outgoing and sociable (or learn to be so)
.....• Able to lift, move, pack, and unpack 50+ pound trunks
.....• Be willing to travel at long and odd hours (often the demands of touring mean getting up at 4am to drive 3 hours to catch an 8:30 am flight).
.....• Must be comfortable splitting hotel rooms (often times we only get one)

• HELPFUL SKILLS:
.....• Computer literacy
.....• experience with basic video editing, web development, or an ability to write reasonably well
.....• Good problem solving skills in high pressure situations
.....• Background in magic a plus, as well as an interest in helping to write material for scam school and other web projects
.....• Bonus points if you're over 21

The money's not great, but I'm able to cover all travel costs (air travel, rental cars, and hotels), and a portion of meals on the road. Every year is different, but I can guarantee some amazing, surprising adventures over the next year: we're performing for Universal Studios Orlando, we're shooting "scam school," were doing live events, college performances and more. If you want a true experience you'll never forget, I think you'll get a lot out of it.

Feel free to post questions here, or write me directly at Brian@shwood.com

Sucks that I don't have a penis.

Best. Comment. Ever.

I'm sure Brian would consider a female but the job requires heavy work (lifting, moving heavy stuff, etc) and I'm guessing that the guy would more often than not, if not always, to save money, room with Brian.

I would totally do it. I have more questions. Currently out of work recent college grad. That is the kind of work I would love to do. Have some similar experience and also over 21. I'll check back in when I get home on a computer.

I'm not sure how happy Mrs. Brian would be with having a girl spend all that "quality time" with Brian, plus there is some road shenanigans that might not be OK with the fairer sex.

I'll remind myself of that every time I think of my days as a roadie for a metalcore band.

I'm not sure what road shenanigans you're talking about...unless you mean calling women bitches and acting as though they're only "sluts to be fucked". Cuz yea...that WOULD bother me. But Brian doesn't seem the type.

In all honesty, is there any way this job can be done from a remote "home base"? I would love to help out and get road experience, but I'm just not able to relocate right now...

Austin / Boston, they sound close, right? Doesn't that count?

I'm game. I actually joined this forum just to respond to this message.

I have done a lot of various work from working in ad sales, building road signs, and I currently deal black jack so i'm comfortable with both the physical and people requirements. I've also worked on a couple festival films so I know a little bit about video production. I'm almost 24 and the toughest part would be relocating but i'm content living out of my truck if need be. I'm also an aspiring fire eater so picking up a few tricks from one of the best in the business would make it completely worth it.

I spent my teens in St. Louis, Webster Groves, University City. Fun town. I'm almost twice your age, so am sure a lot has changed since. I was the first punk rocker at my high school, haha. Had hair like Brians before botha you were born.

Sounds like you have some highly eligible candidates. This sounds like the kind of thing I would go out on a whim and do to get some great life experience. I have lots of video editing experience and have done stage acting before, but am a year shy of 21. I am also starting my Junior year in college in a month, which is probably what I should pursue right now.

I guess I'm just posting to let you know how much interest there is in the job position.

Yeah my experience ranges from running concerts (physical and paper work), yard work, supervisor in a restaurant, organization representative, and a lot of other things. This would be the perfect job for me since it's my field of media plus my past experience. Just saying I really would want this and could use this now. Been doing any kind of work since I graduated, so my experience has grown to web design and media consultation as well.

Hi Brian,

I'm a 22 year old male and a recent college grad. I have a background in web development/web management and been a DJ for about 3 years now. The DJ gig requires lots of heavy lifting, setting up light, and setting up sound equipment. If interested in talking to me more please PM me and I can get you my my email and cell.

Thank!

Oh, if only John Candy was alive and could apply for this position. Instead of Scam School, we would get a reenactment of Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

Good question: Jonny Z's committed through the first week of September. After that, I'll need help through the run at Halloween Horror Nights (I'm renting a house for a couple of months during that time), and then it's back to touring nationwide while being based out of Austin, TX.

Hey guys-- quick update on the assistant search:

The fact that I'm spending 2 months in Orlando at Universal is really messing things up, especially since most of the applicants so far are willing to relocate to Austin. So here's my new plan:

Instead of picking someone right now, I'm going to hire one person to help for the Orlando run, and then another to become my long-term assistant. The Orlando helper should already live in Orlando, have reliable transportation, and be available to start around September 11th. The long-term applicant should be willing to relocate to Austin, and be available to start around the end of October.

For the long-term position: I want to thank again everyone who has sent in an application so far. They're all in a folder right now, and everyone is being carefully considered. Keep those new submissions coming in as well, and let me know if anything changes for your availabilities.

For the Orlando position: get in touch with me ASAP. I need someone who already lives in Orlando to help me run the show at Universal, setup & tear down each show, manage props, and run some errands.

As such, i make a sound like an unmuffled nissan stanza with a fuel injector clog when i sleep. Seriously, my head generates more DB's than a Slipknot concert.

Me. I'm a giver. Experienced traveler/worker while not sleeping having toured with many bands ( U2, Rolling Stones, Madonna, Tina Turner, Neil Diamond) over the years operating on a 6am-2am 7day/week schedule. Have done several thousand shows and loaded a few thousand trucks and airplanes. Have photographed. Have writed, produced, directed, shot, edited. Have personal assisted the biggest psychos in Los Angeles ( seriously Barbara Streisand, you knew you had your period, I'm sorry I took an hour to find your brand of tampon in South Central ). Have driven through the country several times, this one and a few in Europe. Am shrwood with my money. I recycle everything. No wife, no kids. I never fart in confined spaces. People love me.
