Backspace goes back in the browser (provided the focus isn't in a text box). Firefox has a setting in about:config to switch between Back and PgUp behavior for this key (browser.backspace_action, 0 goes Back, 1 goes up). The default is Back for Windows and Up for Linux.

F6 also focuses the browser address bar (in fewer keys than Alt+D).
Ctrl+K focuses the search box in Firefox.
In Windows Explorer, Backspace moves up to the parent folder (in fewer keys than Alt+Up).

Well, actually. In Windows Explorer, the backspace key doesn't go up, but it has the same functionality as the 'Back' button on the toolbar, it goes back to whatever folder it was in before the current one, so for instance if you are in a folder, and you go back to the parent folder via the 'Up" button, then pressing Backspace takes you back down to the child folder.

Also, CTRL+L in Firefox also gives focus to the address bar.

In Windows (most versions), Windows Key+D and Windows Key+M minimizes all windows and show you the desktop (Windows+D gives the same effect as the 'Show Desktop' button and Windows+M simply minimizes all open windows, but the perceived effect ends up the same)

Just my two cents.
