Loved the show as usual. I'd like to see the $700 gaming rig utilizing the new Radeon 4850 with a mother board supporting Crossfire allowing the option of later adding a secondary GPU. It would be a good contrast to the NVidia machine and seems the better way to go for a budget gaming rig.

Did anyone else notice that todays HD episode was a .mp4 instead of a .mov?
Can it go back to being a .mov?
That way, I can right click select Open with quicktime and watch the HD stream in full screen. Instead of waiting for it to download and watching it or copying and pasting the URL into quicktime.

Good show again this week guys. Being that I am a Mac technician it was good to see how the Windows streamlining stuff is being done now. It's been a while for me.

I've been building gaming rigs for about over 6 years and I feel that there's a big misconception of uselessness of quad core.


I play two huge dx10 games at the moment.. Halo 2 and Gears of War... I have dual monitors that shows me a good graph of cpu use. my q6600 oc'ed to 3.0 ghz, while playing gears of war in it self uses a good 75% of each core...

on top of this i have an rdp window, and zune in the background playing music or watchign tekzilla..

Look man.. understand putting a core2duo on this machine is analogous as putting 3000 dollar rims on a 500 dollar car!

Hey guys, thanks for the shows. I have to move on. I've found much better shows online and will be going away for awhile. I've got better things to do. If you want to know the reasons that I'm not watching anymore and will not watch Tekzilla anymore here they are.
1) The show is so boring. It's just viewer questions and "not so witty banter". I stuck around to see how Veronica would make the show but it's still boring (insert weird Veronica face here).
2) The show is so "dated" by the time it comes out. You shoot on Tues. and put it up on Saturday? The news is old. I don't care about Comic Con a week later... or E3 five or six days later.
3) I keep falling asleep. Did I mention the show was boring? Twit, Crankygeeks, Dl.tv, Diggnation, TRShow, and other similar shows are almost products of their own schtick. You're supposed to be "NEW" uncensored "HIP" shows that the networks are too old and curmudgeonly to show but you're all bad versions of 90s tech shows... we've seen these stories a million time on TechTV. Will someone do something new? I'm bored. Where is the swearing? Where is the honesty? They're just lame shows and they never get better. They just get more boring because "THESE ARE THE SAME SHOWS EVERY WEEK". NOTHING EVER HAPPENS.

I will still watch Epic Fu and check out new shows. I'm just so bored with the crazy dumb and esoteric questions that people ask on Tekzilla. The only person that cares about the answer is the person who wrote in. Why would the other viewers care? We are geeks, we are tech people, if we know how to get the show... wouldn't we know how to figure out the answers? Yawn. Just being honest about how I feel. I used to be a fan.

I agree, a monster gaming PC should not have the same E8400 I just put in my $600 budget rig. Sure it's a great CPU and a great overclocker but it has no place in a high end machine like that. I was expecting to see something from the Intel Extreme family like the QX9770 or if that's too expensive one of the lower-end quads overclocked.

Good to see Veronica browsing the forums, it's nice to see that what we put here is maybe...just maybe being noticed and considered.

If you wantTekzilla to be like the other shows, watch other shows, not Tekzilla.

I think Veronica and Patrick do a good job and I think they're both cool people who are good presenters. Like Veronica said, if you don't like the email questions, write one in yourself!

If you need a change of camera angle every 2 seconds to keep you and your short attention span awake, may I suggest you watch Die Hard?

Great show, but a few comments:

There could also be a few minor things that affect the performance of your RAM. If you had a single 1GB stick and added a 2x1GB kit to make 3GB then you may run into two problems: The single 1GB won't run in Dual Channel mode which will affect performance slightly depending on what applications you use. Also, it is not recommended to mix and match memory. You'd probably be better off with a just getting a single 2x2GB kit and living with the fact that you get ~3.5GB usable.

And finally, why the waste of money? I mean, yes I know nVidia is paying for it but why the waste of money? Really. A single GTX 280 would be more than enough for anyone for the years to come. I would also suggest to go with a 780i (A P45 or X48 would be better though) motherboard w/ E7200 + mushkin DDR2-1066 instead of the super overpriced non-required DDR3 ram. Actually, you can get a X48, E7200 or E8400, and 2x2GB Mushkin DDR2-1066 for cheaper than that Corsair DDR3 kit!

DDR3's high speed is not enough to overcome its high latency. A $50-130 2x2GB DDR2-800 or 1066 performs better than a DDR3-1333, 1600, and 2000MHz kits for fractions of the price. DDR3 won't be required until late 2009 when all of nehalem and fusion is out. I won't be jumping on the DDR3 wagon until late 2009 because its simply too expensive with no real gain.

I also hope that nVidia isn't sponsoring the budget gaming rig. You can get so much better performance with no money from Intel + AMD now. Since the release of AMD's HD 4800 series nVidia has been crying in the corner and cutting prices like mad on all their cards to try and stay in the ring. Now, with AMD's HD 4870 X2 (dual HD 4870s on one PCB) for $499 expected to be released on the first two weeks of august nVidia is trying to do anything to get their cards out there. You'd be amazed what kind of gaming performance you can get with a E8400, Asus P45, 4GB Mushkin, and a single HD 4850.

Is copying and pasting really that hard? Also, for some of us, like me. This change is exceedingly great. Now, I can get my entire PC out of the picture and get the video directly onto my PS3 to watch in 720p. I know it is a minor pain for you, but it is a great improvement for a lot of people.

About the Video Question: Patrick asked about SLR tips. One of the best sites that got me interested in switching from a point&shoot camera to a d60 was http://youtube.com/cameralabs

Gordon runs cameralabs & dslrtips and creates videos to show u how the settings work and when it is appropriate to use them. I found him extremely helpful and gets u out of Automatic mode and gets you using some settings to take better shots. dunno if this is where i should post this sorta thing...oh well. good luck.

While most photography books will discuss exposure, their ability to clearly illustrate creative exposure in a practical way varies greatly. I've read many photography books over the years and the best one I've seen is Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson ISBN: 0817463003

It is full of images that illustrate changing ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. And toward the back of the book are several good guidelines for where to point the camera's light meter to set the exposure.

Along with knowing more about how to take pictures with a DSLR, you also want to learn more about how to edit those photos anre really punch them up or incorporate them into other things. There are two Photoshop podcasts I really like for this. First is Photoshop User TV (http://www.photoshopusertv.com/) and next is Photoshop Killer Tips (http://www.photoshopkillertips.com/).

You don't need Photoshop to learn a lot from these programs. Much of the information like layers, masks, dodge and burn, can be used in other photo editing programs like GIMP (http://gimp.org/).
