Awesome. Hopefully just as good as any DiggNation live.:)

Well from a pure technical aspect, the audio quality on this was 10x better than any diggnation live taping. I loved it and was really impressed with the production. I was expecting some bad audio like on most of the diggnations. Cant wait for the Q+A!

Dood, that was an epic show. Sad I missed it, looked a lot of fun. Loved the intro despite me not knowing where the hell it's from. Awesome that Anakin had his little part in it too, haha. Now I wonder what other live intros you guys might do.

I wish we could have gotten a more in depth review/overview of Avatar and i hope that happens on the next episode. I just feel the show of the year last year should get more than just it was awesome. Other than that, great job guys you are my personal online masters.

What I find amazingly funny is that, since my friend decided to move a few chairs to add to the front row (so he could be there), his head is visible for almost the entire episode. That douchebag ruined all the shots :P
Also, I'm visible alot in the life of brain reenactment, which is also pretty rad.

That was an amazing episode. Much better than the chaos/loudness/drunkantics

If another live episode is in the works, it HAS to be in Canada... (judging from the forums at least) a lot of fans are Canadians.

I agree. I like diggnation, but I can't stand the live shows. The first show I actually watched was a live show and I thought that's what it was like every episode. So I actually didn't watch again until TRS started and got more familiar with Alex.

TRS live was a much better representation of the actual show. It was cool how they hti all the topics this week too.

I thought you guys said you were gonna talk about Generation Kill this episode? Is that gonna happen in the future at some point? Personally I've been loving the show and I would love to see what you guys think about it.

Totally rad show. Opening was epic. I knew it would be great, but didn't really think of huge crowd participation (for some crazy reason). Anakin was great, super lucky. Overall, the show rocked. Maybe too little on too many things, but I suppose Comic Con would be information overload anyway.

I do enjoy Diggnation Live for it's over the top drunkeness, not the sound quality.

P.S. Dr. Tiki!!

What happened to Dan around the mid to end of the TV section? He seemed sort of tired or depressed. He didn't really talk much. I don't it cold be just me, but it kinda made me not want to watch, and that's NEVER happened to me. I love TRS, but he was a real downer towards the end of the episode. Anyone else feel that way?

EDIT: Just saw the sponsors, apparently they were hung over. Maybe not get wasted the night before you do a show. During the show boys, DURING!

Edit2: Besides that, I loved the episode. Just wanted to throw that in, I'm not throwing on the hater pants.

and the sponsor thing was probably recorded AFTER the live show, hence why they were wasted.

Dan was ill. The poor guy was loosing his voice. He was loosing it the day before and actually sounded worse the next day, poor guy. I felt this desire to make him my grandmother's soup but I didn't have a kitchen. Plus, take into consideration the poor guy had been dealing with fan after fan coming up, talking, hugging, spreading germs, and then he had to mingle with people after the con too. Frankly, I am amazed they are all not sick given the mass exposure.

Or maybe its just the mom in me to assume large crowds of people in poor circulated areas packed in like cattle and frankly, some of them appearing to not have bathed this century, would be a haven for germs.

Great show, loved being there. TRS was my favorite thing about the con. I met the guys on Preview Night and told em I was coming. When I got to the line it was huge, so I sighed and went into the Avatar panel line. As I turned the corner for the Avatar panel the guys were outside of that room waiting to go in and recognized me and gave me sort of a "WTF" look. I told em the line was huge and they said essentially that there was more room and they got me into the room. Then I asked the board game question during the Q&A and got a totally rad shirt out of it.

The whole TRS experience was the highlight of my Con.

It didn't bother me at all, other than feeling a lil sorry for him, and getting the urge to help Diane make soup for him. At first I thought it was just him still becoming a man. Some people say I have a deep voice, but if they think that, they should hear it first thing in the morning or when I am sick, it's off the spectrum.

Great show, but I do have to take a few issues with the comments on Avatar.

I purchased season 1 of Avatar based on TRS's recommendation, and from the standpoint of American cartoons, I do agree that it is one of the best produced shows I have ever seen. However, if as you guys have metioned that this is "more than just a kid's show", then I am going to put on my critic's hat and point out the numerous problems with the series so far.

Technically Avatar is very clean with vibrant colors, but the art style is oh so very generic, and the animation pales in comparison to its Japanese counterparts from studios like BONES and Gonzo. The pacing of the story was all over the place, probably a good 1/4 of the episodes can be considered as fillers, many could have even been condensed. A lot of the most basic questions were never even asked, such as why some people can bend and not others? Why do all of the other elements require a medium (i.e. the presence of water, earth and air) in order for them to bend while fire do not? How much of the world has the fire nation conquered in this war that lasted a hundred years and why does it seem like its army is everywhere yet there remained places that are not under its influence? Etc...

The biggest offender to me is that the writers seem to pick and choose things from the Asian cultures yet never bother to understand the meanings behind them. Words, phrases and ideas are taken out of context to fit into the world they've created for convenience. You cannot deny that the fire nation more than just resemble the Chinese in the character's names and many of the references. Take the specific example of honor, the sole driving force behind Zuko's actions. It is as if they found it to be a cool (albeit cliched) concept to use for his motivation, yet he exhibits none of the proper behaviors in one that is seeking honor (in fact, 99% of the fire nation characters introduced so far failed at that). Where's Zuko's honor towards his elders (Iroh)? How about his attitudes to his superiors (Zhang) and in the way he treats those that work under him? Honor to Asians (and specifically as taught in the Chinese culture) exists in all levels of human relationships, whether you are a nobility or a simple commoner. It's preposterous to me that a character such as Zuko would be spouting retrieving honor episode after episode and continue to act the way he does. It is quite laughable really.

With that said, I come back to the original contention that all of these can be overlooked since after all it's just a kid's show, no children is going to question the things that I've brought up. However, to claim it is more than that, then Avatar has a lot to answer for.

Oh, by the way. Jeff, before you can claim this as the "best adventure/action story ever", I'd challenge you to watch 12 Kingdoms (http://www.amazon.com/Twelve-Kingdoms-Collection-One/dp/B000O76TOK/ref=pd_bbs_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1217454512&sr=8-3) first (it has some similar themes, with a lot more thorough and accurate research into the Asian cultures it tries to emulate). That kind of assertion should be best saved for masterpieces you obviously have not bothered to seek out yet. ;)

PS. Above are all impressions based on just the first season alone. I'll be catching the rest as soon as I can.

I purchased season 1 of Avatar

Firstly, you've only seen season 1, so alot of your opinion is irrelevant, not trying to hurt your feelings by saying that, but it's true. You're going to be embarrassed by this post, after you've seen season 2 and 3.

Technically Avatar is very clean with vibrant colors, but the art style is oh so very generic, and the animation pales in comparison to its Japanese counterparts from studios like BONES and Gonzo.

No the animation isn't great. Environments and backgrounds are good, and the special affects are good, the martial arts very accurate, but it's a very cheap show, and they do well with the budget. The art style doesn't have counterparts to compare it to, most of Avatars art style, is homage to OLD Japanese animation.

The pacing of the story was all over the place, probably a good 1/4 of the episodes can be considered as fillers, many could have even been condensed.

There is abslolutely no filler whatsoever in the Avatar series, it's all relevant to the series as a whole.

A lot of the most basic questions were never even asked, such as why some people can bend and not others?

Same reason Daniel Laruso got his ass kicked the first time.
Same reason some ppl can run fast, some can do math better, some can sing better....talent and ability they are born with, and practice.

Why do all of the other elements require a medium (i.e. the presence of water, earth and air) in order for them to bend while fire do not?

Bending is merely harnessing the energy of the element. Season 2 will help you understand how firebenders get their bend on.

How much of the world has the fire nation conquered in this war that lasted a hundred years and why does it seem like its army is everywhere yet there remained places that are not under its influence? Etc...

You've kind of answered your own question within the question.....if there are places that are not under the firenations influence, then the answer is, some, but not all.

The biggest offender to me is that the writers seem to pick and choose things from the Asian cultures yet never bother to understand the meanings behind them. Words, phrases and ideas are taken out of context to fit into the world they've created for convenience.

That's correct, and it's ok. That's what all writing is. Art mimics life. You've focused too much on the origin of the culture of the world Avatar takes place in. It's not defined. You may also notice, nobody has a cell phone. It's timeless as well.

You cannot deny that the fire nation more than just resemble the Chinese in the character's names and many of the references. Take the specific example of honor,

Riiighhhhttt, so 'honor' is exclusively referring to the Chinese culture ? Are you sure it's not something that is/should be, a part of all cultrues ? And yes, I can deny that there are any direct references to Chinese words or names. Also, "Gandalf" and "Frodo" are not Swedish references.

the sole driving force behind Zuko's actions. It is as if they found it to be a cool (albeit cliched) concept to use for his motivation, yet he exhibits none of the proper behaviors in one that is seeking honor

Finding honor and enlightenment, is unique to every individual searching it out. There are no 'proper' behaviours. The only thing in common, is that one is lost, and accepts that they've lost their way.

(in fact, 99% of the fire nation characters introduced so far failed at that).

Kind of a theme amongst BAD PEOPLE, huh? Somebody has their CapnCrunch Sleuth badge on.

A story of him sitting around being 'proper' and 'honourable', wouldn't make for an interesting show, now would it ? Maybe you should stick around, and observe him track honor down, as he starts to realise that he has none, and becomes ashamed of how he treats Iroh.

With that said, I come back to the original contention that all of these can be overlooked since after all it's just a kid's show, no children is going to question the things that I've brought up. However, to claim it is more than that, then Avatar has a lot to answer for.

Most kids shows try to teach similar elements of life in their writing. They normally do it by treating their audience like idiots and sugar coating everything. Avatar does it intelligently, deeply, and prolificly, while remaining interesting to kids, and thoroughly entertaining to kids in their 30's.

It's preposterous to me that a character such as Zuko would be spouting retrieving honor episode after episode and continue to act the way he does. It is quite laughable really.

Zuko's quest for retrieving honor, is defined by his fathers, DISHONORABLE parameters. A line from season 3 by Zuko, "I thought I was trying to do the right thing before, now I realise I was wrong". I think there's someting in that for all of us.

Seriously, catch up.

Why would it be irrelevant? Just because you've seen the other 2 seasons, does not make my issues with the first one non-existent. Now of course you can tell me that these things are eventually addressed, but 2 years ago, could you have said the same? I focused my arguments on what I've experienced so far, and I said so as much. My feelings aren't hurt, but you are kind of snobbish aren't you?

As for the rest of your arguments, I'll only bother to answer this:

Riiighhhhttt, so 'honor' is exclusively referring to the Chinese culture ? Are you sure it's not something that is/should be, a part of all cultrues ? And yes, I can deny that there are any direct references to Chinese words or names. Also, "Gandalf" and "Frodo" are not Swedish references.

No, honor is not exclusive to the Asian cultures, but obviously that is where the influence to the show is from, the creators have said so as much. The way you have defined it really do demonstrate your lack of understanding of the idea and philosophy of where they took it from. No, I don't care to see Zuko "sitting around being 'proper' and 'honourable'", what I'm more interested is in his action as well as how he treats others. If the character learn as the series develops, great, but right now, it's silly and ignorant.

As for you denying any references to Chinese words and names...are you Chinese? Seriously, can you honestly tell me that in the Great Divide the two clan names of "Ganjin" and "Zhang" does not refer to the Chinese words for "Clean" and "Dirty"? How about Princess "Yue" of the Northern Water Clan is a literal translation of the word "Moon"? What about the Panda Spirit known as "Heibai" is actually the words for "Black" and "White"? You must be joking me if you are going to question me on those references, at least get your facts straight.

I give credit where credit is due and all of my critiques are not made out of thin air. I'm happy to have an intelligent discussion on shows like Avatar, but no thanks to your attitude and your sarcasm.

Well done TRS on the live show, it couldn't have gone better, packed house, great topics, awesome seeing some forum ppl there and great interaction. The sound was nearly spot on too.

Next year, I hope you guys are able to run a live event again or at least attend and have another meetup. I'll be all over that!

Congrats!

My feelings aren't hurt, but you are kind of snobbish aren't you?
...

I'd definitely say your points aren't irrelevant. I mean basically you said, "These are some issue I have that might make me stop watching."

As for Avatar, I'm really glad they decided to do a set story and stick with it. One of the things I love about some Anime is they plan out a kick ass story arc, do it and then stop. Don't get me wrong, most of the time I'd want more. But they understand that they would be sacrificing quality, a concept what many American tv shows don't get. So, Avatar is very much a 3 season story. I'd say don't judge it too harshly on season 1 alone.

As for TRS, the show was great... but it lacked something, which was Steve putting up pictures and random things. Dan was a little off too, though understandably. It seemed at time like he was going to completely lose his voice.

What happened to Dan around the mid to end of the TV section? He seemed sort of tired or depressed. He didn't really talk much...

I thought the total opposite! I said to the wife half way through "Wow, I really like Dan in this one, he seems all together, more serious, and even a bit quicker." I had no idea he was sick, just a little horse. I'm not a Dan hater btw, I love the guy in every show, but he seemed like he knew his shit a lot more this one.

Kudos to you, my Hebrew friend!

What an awesome ep. Only complaint is where the camere was setup... got to see some dude's head for the entire episode... was a bit annoying. :p

agreed. i'm betting they take care of that when another live show is filmed. i wonder what steve was thinking the whole time? or didn't it bother him? i'm sure he would have preferred the shot to be without mr. head.

It was an awesome show and the guys were amazing as always! I also thought it was epic that the line was so huge for the show. My brother kept saying "This can't be the line for your show"! I just remember thinking how awesome this is gonna be for the guys and then realising the distinct possibility that I may not get in!!!!! Holy Crap! Luckily the room was big enough but filled to capacity I believe! I'm just sorry I was feeling a little too shy to go meet all my forum peeps! Kind of regretted it! But also exhausted from no sleep to go to Bar Basic.

P.S. FYI- some, maybe most hotels are taking reservations for next year already. So go get some good rates now!

Daaaaaaaaaan!

How dare you insult the legacy of Cloak & Dagger and D.A.R.Y.L.!

All jokes aside, I'd have to agree with your take on D.A.R.Y.L. (not as good as when I was a kid - and it was fantastic then).

I have watched Cloak & Dagger a couple times recently, and I think that it is still an awesome movie. Seeing the three fingered lady still freaks me out. Dabney Coleman was what every boy saw their father as (or wished their father was like).

The live show was great.

Cloak & Dagger for life!

I just brought this up yesterday to someone, I think DARYL stands up well. It's still great for kids and for us big kids, albeit, nicely dated to the 80's.

I can watch the Michael McKean teaching baseball scenes any day. And Turtle calling his sister a hooker (which was beyond me when I firt saw the film).

Great episode. It was the best live podcast I've ever watched, and I hope they do some more in the future.

I was a little sad, though, that the part I was looking forward to -- the Q&A -- will be delayed until next week.

today at work I was telling every body about the show and the the guys and how they knew you / met you...

fucking great -- I always thought we should of made a Rescue Rangers game like Crimson Skies or somtin' But really you rock and I think you you should be writing B.P.R.D!!! it would be really cool; the animated flick was great

Don't get me wrong, I'll still watch it with good childhood memories and cry those 6 year old tears towards the end. Turtle is also still funny.

It's just not as good as Cloak & Dagger for me.

I think Explorers is still pretty damn good too.

I was also really excited to watch Flight of the Navigator again, and didn't enjoy it nearly as much (probably because I had built it up too much). I think I blocked out all of the depressing moments where he finds his family in the future.

Hey guys, I love the live shows. Much better than the garage shows. Why not just tape segments outside of the garage sometimes? The green screen sucks (or should I say SUX?). I also think you need a girl on the show sometimes or guests. Why not spice up the show a little? It's getting kinda boring. Why not interview people on the street? Why not do reviews of movies with homeless people? Why not get a stripper on the show? Why not flash some boobs? It's almost like a kids show? WTF? Isn't this the internet?

Why don't you dress up like ninjas and answer questions? Why don't you sit on a couch and drink beer? Why don't you animate yourselves, affect a funny voice, and respond to emails? Why don't you spike your hair and do magic tricks in bars?

I'm sure the guys appreciate any feedback they receive, however asking them to be something they aren't is not all that constructive. To answer your final question, yes, this is the internet, and the beauty of it is you can do your own show of things you are passionate about. You know, like homeless strippers or whatever.

Frankly, the guys are going to be who they are and are going to make the show they want to make. Our choice is whether to watch or not. Simple as that.

C'mon now guys, don't be too mean to him. Hes a newbie after all. Lets answer nicely...

- The green screen is as much a part of the show as Alex's effeminate shrieks of rad. To be honest, I actually missed it a bit during the live show.

- A female presence? May I ask what exactly the point would be? I kinda like the whole "boys club" nature of the show.

- "Other" suggestions... UMMMM, this isn't G4.

It would have been annoying were it not in the context of a live show. Concerts, sports games, and anything where there's crowds of people in general have risks of obstructed views and it's not worth getting angry about.
