OK so I have Verizon FiOS. I love the internet speed, but I'd like to utilize my network for file transfer among my computers, namely streaming to and from my media center rig. The 10/100 wired and 802.11G wireless are pretty underwhelming for this. Of course the 10/100 works fine and smooth for most things but the wireless G is just pissing me off. My laptop has N, I plan on getting a USB N adapter for my media center PC, but the router is G.

My first question is if Verizon has an N router that has to be asked for or paid extra for or something.

If not, is there another feasible solution possible involving another router, that doesn't limit access to other computers or admin pages for either router?

I'd rather keep everything to one router, so the first option is MUCH preferred. Especially since wireless N is 3x faster than the 10/100 that over the wire offers. Also because it's less to stuff in a corner. Thanks for the help.

Do you have like a optical modem (as opposed to a cable modem) that your current router plugs in to with Ethernet? If so, you can you can plug what ever you want in to it.

I thought the same thing, but I plugged it straight into my laptop to test that theory and it didn't work. Unless I'm mistaken and a router is required between a modem and a computer.........

If it works like cable modems, it is some times the case you have to wait 30 minuets between plugging in a new device with a different MAC address.

Waited over an hour with the router disconnected, then plugged in my laptop, still didn't work. restarted the laptop, didn't help, reconnected the cable several times, didn't help. Anyways, do you have experience doing what you suggested, or is it my laptop, or does a router need to be in between?

I'm gonna bump this because I really want to know of anyone's experiences using a different router with FiOS internet.

You're kidding me, no one on here has FiOS and wants/has N networking?

Look at the configuration of the current router.

Is it using PPPoE, PPPoA or just DHCP. Does it have a username and password set?
