Ok, Soul Calibur IV is my first time delving into the Soul Calibur universe. Ok, so far I have a created character (Modified version of Maxi) but the manual says that you can make a "start from scratch" character and I'm not sure how to do it. Everytime I try to create a character I have to start out with the model of an already existing character. Is this how it's supposed to be or am I missing something?

Custom Characters are in the icon with two faces, next to the middle box (which should be blank. it is for me, at least.)

Ah, ok, I'll take another look. I guess I didn't recognize it. :D

Too bad we can't customize characters from Star Wars...we can't even change the color of their costumes...:(

So is SCIV really as good as the critics say?
With so many fighting games coming out in the next year or so, I can't decide which one to get. I don't really looooove the genre, so I won't likely buy more than one.
SCIV, MK vs DC, T6, SFIV, RDKF.. Ok, that last one isn't really a contender.. ;)

If I had to pick one I would say Street Fighter IV. That game just looks too awesome.

I'll be picking up my copy today, big fan of one and two, though not a really big fighting game fan. I was under the impression you could give your create a character force powers?? Or was my friend wrong yet again.........

From what I've played, the answer is NO
You can choose the fighting style for your created character but Star Wars characters are not in the list of fighting style.

That's right. Something to do with LucasArts letting them in the game, but not allowing them to be fiddled with except for the bonus items and abilities.
I've been having a lot of fun with this game. I just unlocked Starkiller and am trying to save enough money to buy all of the accessories and all that. I haven't made any custom characters yet but I did make a nice attempt at modding Kira into a resemblance of Harley Quinn from Batman. :) Here's a picture. I'll get it at some point. It sounded like the online has a lot to be desired, and I feel it's the only way I'll play multi-player. Most of my friends are heading back to school, and I loved SC 2 for one on one matches. Mainly cause I rocked it out with Link (or I think). I'm a little more excited for MK Vs. DC in a way for simplicity, but SC always was great for long term play and unlocking stuff. SF4 it sounds like would be awesome to play in an Arcade if one near me gets a machine.
Soul Calibur I is hands-down one of my favorite console games of all time.
Some fighting game purists complain that it's too easy to excel using button-mashing in SC. I'm not sure if this is still the case, but I feel they are deep games that can take years (decades?) to master.
SF4 looks fantastic. I wish they'd counter DC/MK with a new version of Marvel vs. Capcom.
[Using mention of SC to post my recent rediscovery of my Dreamcast]
I actually just bought a 54" Mitsubishi rear-projection deal recently and decided to pull my Dreamcast out of storage. Using the VGA adapter into the VGA port shocked me ... it looks fantastic after all these years and is as fun as ever.
Behold my crappy camera-phone pic of the radness (does not do it justice believe me)

8-year old console looking next-gen - priceless

Alright, so I rented it, and so far I'm kinda glad I didn't buy it. I need to play it some more, but I'm not really wowed by it or anything. I kinda feel like it's just the next game that people talk about for a month and then it kinda goes away (like GTAIV, for example).
At times the game looks great, but certain things about it kinda bug me. I don't have the same thoughts while playing Uncharted or MGS4, but maybe it's only because I didn't notice due to how the games play differently..
I did play a few rounds online with another TRSer, and it just feels a lot like a button-mashing game to me. Maybe if I try and learn all the combos and such for each character, it'll make more sense, but memorizing such things kinda lost its appeal to me a few years ago.
It's not a bad game, from what I've seen, just it seems not much has changed since I last played a SC game, and maybe it's not for me anymore.

I mostly want this game for the character creation. I'm a huge sucker for that. Right now I'm torn between which version to get (and well, money), so I'm holding off on getting it for now.

It's a fighting game and I never expect any fighting game can be a huge revolution from the previous title (for example, SF4 looks great but it's still a SF with incredible graphic and some changes only)

That's true, the time I spent on creating one character is enough for finishing the story mode a few times.:D
Maybe I skipped SC III so I found it's really interesting in character creation.

My only problem with the create a character is that it is a huge, HUGE amount of work just to get all the clothing options to become available.
I've been playing all week and I'm not even close to getting it all.So is SCIV really as good as the critics say?If you like 3D fighting games, this is the best one ever.
If you don't like 3D fighting games, there's no reason to get this.SF4 looks fantastic. I wish they'd counter DC/MK with a new version of Marvel vs. Capcom.Capcom says they're already trying to make it happen. Since Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is going to have half of the work done already. And since there's pretty much no way TvC can be released in the U.S. So they they definately want to make a MvC3.

If SC4 is anything like SC3 it's shit. Bug-ridden and horrible.

I'm going to assume you're the kind of douchebag who would say something like that without even knowing what VF is.
