Hi All,
Sadly, I couldn't come all the way over from England to attend Comic Con but I am going to be there for work between the 3rd and 6th of September. I'll have the evenings to my self and pretty much all of the 6th.
I am after some recommendations of rad things to see and do on my single day out and the few evenings I will have.
I expect that many people on here will have recently been to San Diego, so there hopefully there will be some good ideas. Any thoughts would be much appreciated! :D

there is this awesome Rock n' Roll Dueling Piano Bar on 4th (next to Dick's Last Resort, in Gaslamp) called Shout House... its a good time... raunchy fun. There is plenty of nightlife in Gaslamp... you could do something different every night for 2 weeks :)

Second the Gaslamp as a place to go.
San Diego, is the best place to get Mexican food on earth (including Mexico - something about the ingredients). The one specific restaurant I will recommend is Casa de Reyes in Olde Towne (is that enough "e"s?) San Diego. If you are old enough to drink (remember - US drinking age is 21) - the margaritas are great. They also have great flautas/taquitos (rolled and fried like a spring roll tacos) as an appetiser that I can eat a tray of as an entree.
Also in Old Town is Cafe Coyote ... we used to head down there from Orange County for Sunday Brunch. Their big thing is fresh tortillas. Also good margaritas. Also, parking an be a bitch in Old Town ... but there is parking underneath Coyote (worth knowing if you have a car).
San Diego is also home to Seaworld. Worth a visit.
The USS Midway is great to get a tour of too if that sort of thing interests you.
Since you will have your passport, you might even consider heading over the border to Tijuana. To be honest, it doesn't do much for me, but it might be worth considering - but only if you have a spare day. Greyline Buses run a bus over the border if you don't want to walk across (easy to do - but remember your passport).

Thanks for all the tips. I do like me some food - especially sushi - so I think I should be covered from that side of things. Never really tried Mexican food (the only place near me is always shut when I go!) so I'll be sure to give that a shot.
Also, dueling pianos? Sounds awesome. This Gaslamp place sounds like the place to be.
I also forgot to mention that this is my first ever trip to the US of A; Anything typically American that I should try and do whilst over there? I'm thinking of Dan drinking tea in Oxford - I doubt that I can get to do something so hysterical, but I live in hope.
Thanks again - keep the suggestions coming!

Gaslamp is the way to go with a few days (tons of great restaurants and even a pub I think). But you didn't come all this way to go to a pub did you? Try the micro-brewers for local/regional American beer. You can take the redline all the way to the border if you need entertainment on the cheap - and yeah - don't forget the passport. On a more casual and relaxing dinner try Buster's in Seaport Village - get a a window seat for the the marina. Or, get there early and people watch.
American's dig the accent but look left not right or you're going to get hit by a car. ;) Corporations and Companies are singular not plural, smoking a fag in public buildings and restaurants can get you in jail (no joke it's illegal), but you can run around screaming dogs bullock's at people and no will care. If you're going to the beach please do not bring Speedos, that's just wrong. Enjoy, and spend that dominant Pound everywhere you go - for Queen and Country!
As a side note because I always wanted to do this, are the whales in Baja during the summer, or is that another part of the year? Seeing the whales would make nice kodak moment shots for back home.

If its good enough for the B-list celebs in Hollywood, it should be good enough for a visiting Pom.
Unless you find a microbrew, avoid the standard US beer - compared to what you get in UK, its like watered down piss (Q. Whats the difference between American beer and having sex in a canoe? A. Nothing ... they are both f@#$ing close to water.)
Get some Mexican food - its pretty good (avoid "hole in the wall" places unless you are with a local - chances are you will get more than you bargained for). Wash it down with a Margarita.
Avoid the faux pubs - the range of imported beer on tap is generally pretty good, but the food is lousy.
SD is on the coast, so you really want to do seafood - but dont get fish/chips ... you'll be disappointed. If you are around a Wahoos at lunchtime, get a fish taco.
If you want to get your geek on, find a Fry's Electronics (I know there are stores in SD). Trust me - you will never look at a computer store the same way ever again.
Are you planning on getting to LA at all?

Don't think I'll have time for LA to be honest. I have to get back to the UK for a conference, which is why I'll only have most of a day to myslef. I plan to try and make the most of the evenings though.
I've heard of Fry's - I am almost scared to go!
