hello.... :)
need help on how to retouch a picture.... i have a beauty shot picture, would like to remove blemish, uneven skin tones....
long time ago a friend of mine demonstrated it how its done but i forgot already, its like he applied foundation makeup, added colors to the eye shadow, changed the eye color, applied eyeliner, fix the texture of the lips and added lipstick, and the outcome is like a picture from a magazine....
as i remember, he didnt use clone tool, more of alpha channel, masking, blending mode, brush, filters
thanks in advance....

THe way I do this is by making the selection of the area I want to edit, copy that onto a new layer, and, while keeping the object(ie eyes, lips etc) selected, I use an adjustment layer to edit that particular item. By keeping the lips etc selected before adding the adjustment layer, it creats a layer mask so you are only affecting the lips, so you have a new layer for each different part of the face. This gives you more overall control of what you are doing.
For the skin, I usually make the opacity of the brush around 5-10 per cent, then get a colour that I like, and keep painting until I am happy. This way, you make the skin free of blemishes in stages.

Just go to youtube and search for 'retouching photoshop'. I'm sure you'll find tons of methods.

Well, I dont know about the woman, because it was just an image that I found on the web, but I personally dont anywayhttp://revision3.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif. I sell phones for a living!!!I would love to do this full time and get paid, but for the moment, this is just a hobby, I do it in the evenings.
I wasnt exactly sure if you were talking about the woman being a model, or asking if I did this in a modelling companyhttp://revision3.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif
No need to thank though. Any more questions just post them up. I know I've recieved a lot of help on these forums. The lads(and ladies) here are fairly cool that way.
You should post up a few bits of your work when your done.

I really suggest you take a look at EP 93. The technique he uses to separate what he's working on is a GREAT idea and is now the technique i'm going to use on all my work from now on.

Are you on about where Ben uses the eye-dropper to select a specific colour, and use the hue/saturation to affect colours in that colour range?

Is that a human? Or a china doll?
This was done.. by me. With the clone tool, spot healing brush and some colour correction.

Selecting the skin.. performing a huge amount of Gaussian blur then applying some grain just makes a mess. It's like a professional restoration expert going over the mona lisa with a tub of dulux.
To retouch a photo all it takes is zooming in and looking at the thing.. then press the spot healer on something that shouldn't be there. It's takes some patience, but the results are better. Keep the navigator/preview window on one side so you can see the image from a distance as well. Or.... squint, sounds weird, but all the bits you have to remove are easy to spot when you squint at the image, plus it's quicker than zooming in and out all the time.

LOL !!! I G N O R A N T ... "Thy Who Know Everything .Learns Nothing" - Quote of the Day.
Well Joey There would have been a Better way to Put it ... did i ever mention something about your retouch ( even though i found that the Girl now looked like a Fresh Shaved Gay Potrait) .. Everyone has their Style and their own way of doing it ... you could have pointed out the mistakes without giving a critic value comparing to your peice of art , claiming it to be more accurate than any one elses.... ¿
And FYI ... there was no Gaussain Blur Used.... that's why i mentioned I G N O R A N T ... cheers...
and the steps were purely followed of Lee Varis ..
those who want to learn can download the sample chapter from
http://www.photoshopsupport.com/photoshop-blog/dl-blog/skin-1/Skin_Varis_202-215.pdf
and those who knows it all .. can go on criticising withour learning...

I think you are right in what you said aboput the china doll comment. I've repeatedly said that there is no need to insult in these forums. Sure, give constructive critisism, and advice where needed, but leave it at that. Look at the difference between all the images in this thread. Each of the same woman, but each completely different. I like the one that I submitted, but others could say that there is too much red in the image. That is just the way I liked it that time. Keep up with the style that you are using. Only you can have your style.
By the way, joeyrock, it would do no harm if you read the last post by LadyLoquacious in the "Inspired By Ben Wilmore Episodes" thread.

LOL.... etc
I've read that pdf before actually... but I know how it's done from looking at it. It's been blurred to within an inch of it's life then some grain/noise has been applied on top. What blur tool is used to make said mess is wholly irrelevant.
On the topic of me being "unwilling to learn" and your being peeved generally. Firstly you're missing the fact I clearly watch a tutorial show..
Secondly, and more importantly, I take issue with the entire reasoning behind some one wanting to paint all the character and humanity out of people's faces.
So while you are considering this as an artistic opportunity and are hurt that I've put down your (sorry.. Lee Varis's) work. I've merely taken the help request of "retouch" at it's face value, taken one look at your work and wondered why it no longer looks anything like a human. Then I proceeded to demonstrate exactly what "removal of blemishes and uneven skin tone" looks like. When doing that, an "accurate" approximation of reality, or even an improvement on it, is the whole point.
On your "critique" of my work. You can say what you want and it wouldn't offend my artistic sensiblities in the slightest. Why? Because it wasn't an artwork, it's a practical cleaning of the image. When you say it looks like a freshly shaved gay.. I can see exactly what bit you are talking about. I thought about correcting it after I posted it, but frankly I didn't want to spend any mre time on it. To my eyes most of it looks pretty good.
In all honesty I ordinarly wouldn't bother correcting a picture of that girl anyway, she's attractive enough as is. What is particularly annoying about that china doll look is it's everywhere, you can't download a wallpaper anymore without it being visually raped like that. It's a lazy, fast, slap dash method of retouching. If you want to use it for it's particular astectics in some art then knock yourself out.... but that's not "blemish removal" is, is it.
..............
John I had read that thread before and do you notice I'm not in it? I personally dislike that HDR look but it's clearly an artist thing and some people like it. The aim isn't to improve the "quality" of the picture by removing errors.. there are no errors in art.
Since I wasn't planning to do any of those pictures myself and had nothing to contribute, I didn't go in and lay down my opinons on the guys art... they would have been negative so I decided to keep them to myself.
People who work in Photoshop aren't always out to create art, it's sometimes just a practical tool. Maybe the thread starter will correct me here if I'm wrong; but this thread sounded to me like it was requesting some practical advice. You two guys might want to try and differentiate the two better.

Well, when someone says "Just wanted to see what you guys thought", it doesnt sound like they are looking for advice to me. It seemed that he just wanted the opinion of the other people in these forums as to the quality of work. The only reason that I thought it might be a good idea for you to check out that post is because LadyLoquacious made a point about slagging off peoples work. .
I think that if people want to give advice to other people to help, brilliant, bring it on. But I think that if people give advice to make themselves sound good, then its fairly pointless. The sarcastic comment at the top ruined the following advice.

I was talking about this thread in my second paragraph to you John, it was a final 'summing up' paragraph. I wouldn't directly address a thread starter in a completely different thread.

Ok, so I thought that you were talking about another thread. In this one, what benefit could there have been in using the China Doll comment? I just dont understand the point of slagging off other peoples work, especially in a forum for a tutorial. Why didnt you just give the advice and leave it at that? As I mentioned to hiteshp, each person in these forums had a different style, each of the women in this post looks a little different.

Benefit? Why would there be a benefit?
Until I was called "I G N O R A N T" I only asked if it was a human or a china doll. I would hardly call that a slagging off, frankly there are worse things I could have said.
Sure my posts after confirm it as sarcasm, but I didn't put a positive or negative spin on my initial comment. For all you know I could have a china doll fetish and was merely making an observation. Maybe my sarcasm was a knee jerk reaction against a person who felt the need to use a watermark here... I don't know. I didn't put that much thought in to it too be honest.
But that's enough now. This bickering back and forth has gone on long enough. If I've hurt feelings/'rubbed you both up the wrong way' then I apologise. I'll stop being an ass and running my mouth (fingers) off and I hope we can all move on.

You know what, your dead right. You didnt upset me, maybe just confused me a littlehttp://revision3.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif
I aplogize if I seemed like i was bitching, I just get a bit mad when I think that someone is unnecessarily making fun of someone elses work. I accept I got a bit touchy on this subject. As you said, lets leave it here and move on.
Good Luck
