It's Magic 101. Can you mimic the master?

I had it figured out right away. I was waiting for them to all figure it out but they didn't. I thought he was going to do that trick and the people would figure it out, but then he'd do something to blow their mind such as a third match appearing in a red color or something. To be honest, I thought that was the lamest episode yet.

Pretty much.

There's no way they would have thought that, since I clearly showed both sides of the matches. Unfortunately, the camera didn't catch that part well enough (it's zoomed in too tight). :-/
I'll throw a little youtube video of a close up of the "proving" part. Might give you a better perspective on how the audience saw it.

I think the reason most of us kind of knew is because we are LOOKING for it. if you watch the video @ 1:23 .. i knew what the gig was going to be because Brain flips the matchs over and looks at the back of the matches. My first thought was something like the matches had different colors on the back.
I'm sure if he had not done that, I might not have noticed right away.
good trick tho

This is the close-up view that the audience sees, which should eliminate any chance in their mind that there's 2 colors per match (sorry for the crap quality... got it out as quickly as I could):

Hey, I thought the trick was kinda cool but the part I liked the best was the ad for the beer pong tables. I now know only sexy bikini models play beer pong in water.

My running thoughts whilst watching the episode.
Poolsidepong.com interesting sponsor...if only I had a pool
Nice konami code reference (nerds Unite)!!!
Chimay and Blue moon on tap....decent selection score 1 point for the bar
Paper towels and a 9v battery....nice teaser.
And buying a poosidepong table will get me the models and the infinity pool right???
Great episode, need to start working on it.

I saw this coming from a mile away. :D Those paper matches always have dual color sides.
Oh yea, bonus points for the Contra reference. :D

I learned to do the "big move covers small move" part of the trick from Louis Ramey (Last Comic Standing) but with a Lighter that had one of the barcode stickers on it.
He would show you the non barcode side, flip his hand up to show you the "back" then pass it through his hand to be "barcoded." Kinda cool visual and Brian's right, you don't catch it when you are face to face. Plus, its a great one-time trick. The more you do it, the more likely they figure it out.
Something you might want to consider Brian is an insert of what the visual looks like POV during the show. It might help seal the illusion.

I have never seen dual color matches. Where do you get them?

I hate hate hate saying this, but this is the weakest ep yet. Sorry Brian. :( This is the sorta quicktrick (extra credit, I called it in another post) that should be a fun thing slapped on after the credits, not a full ep.

Here is an example:

I don't understand what he is trying to do with those matches, but one side is painted black and the other side is that brown-paper color.
As to where you get them --- I have no idea. I don't smoke, so I don't handle matches or lighters often. And when I do, i use wood matches (because paper matches suck).
Update: I guess most paper matches do not have dual color sides, the few matchbooks that I have seen do.

Nah, I think this one was solid. It's one of the easiest ones to pull of, there's very little risk of screwing it up b/c you've over indulged (like setting up one of the puzzles but forgetting the solution), and in the bar, it looks pretty good. I pulled this one on my sister the night I saw it without any chance to practice and it worked great. Doubt it would get me a beer, but as we know, that's what the puzzles are for. :)
Also, I agree with whoever mentioned a POV shot. If you can get a camera behind your audience and put that image up PiP style or something, that might help in some of these.

Liked this one.
knew what was going on right away, but I've never used the paddle move with matches
what I tend to do in a more impromptu situation (in Japan) is to draw a straight line on one side of a disposable chopstick, and a squiggly line on the other side
then I pretend I am straightening it out and scrunching it up again
I finish by straightening up only one side, then I give it to the spectator to figure out

Now THAT is imaginative and fun. Would a been a better episode with that. Fun.
