I have a four year old son, Xavier, who loves comics and is an absolute super hero addict. He is constantly asking me to read him comics, but I'm having a hard time finding good ones that are appropriate for his age, that he will like, and that I can enjoy as well.

We've read all the Lions Tiger and Bears and The Gimoles comics (those are written by Mike Bullock, a friend of mine, and are great), and we're reading through all the Marvell Adventures Spider Man and Marvell Adventures Hulk, but then what? What kind of books will work for a 4 year old and still be tolerable by the 26 year old dad that must read them?

Yea the Johnny DC line has a ton of stuff.

There's also the Allison Dare and Courtney Crumrin books from Oni Press and Bone would also be good for a young kid.

Uncle Scrooge is supposed to be really good, right?

Oh, Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Franklin-Richards/Chris-Eliopoulos/e/9780785123224/?itm=1)

BTW, tell the truth, was the name Xavier at all intentional?

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, and keep em coming!
BTW, tell the truth, was the name Xavier at all intentional?

Actually, my wife and I listed names from A-Z, one for each letter. I don't know a lot of X names, so I offered Xavier. We both liked it (and yes she likes X-Men even if she wasn't really into comics, and knew where the suggestion came from).

The best part is that we call him 'X' for short, and he wants to grow up to be a super hero. He has powers that he's gotten from all sorts of comic heroes (his body becomes metal like Colossus, when he gets mad or hurt he gets more powerful like the Hulk, He can teleport like night crawler, etc.), and he runs around pretending to fight bad guys.

So in other words...a typical four year-old, huh?

Oh hey I just noticed that Things from Another World (http://www.tfaw.com) has a suggested ages thing on all the TPBs they carry, that might help you find books.

They're under DC as of last week, but aren't archie comics heroes very kid friendly?

The heroes they're talking about are The Fly, The Web, The Shield, Jaguar, the Hood, and more. Many of them were revamped when IMPACT COMICS launched in the ninties but DC will be using the classic versions. The Shield actually predated Captain America. They're no more kid friendly than any other silver age group of heroes. At one time all the Archies were portrayed as superheroes like Captain Pureheart but that's not who DC is taking.

Bone? The color editions are pretty gorgeous. And by the time you get to around volume 3 where shit gets real, your kid will probably adapt to it.

I've been loving Tiny Titans. It's a book that both adults and kids can enjoy! First trade comes out in January I believe.
