Hi

I have a quick question regarding protecting comics from damp (mainly trade paperbacks). Depending on the paper stock some are prone to look like ~~~ (crinkle cut chips) from the side. I live in Cape Town, South Africa which is quite close to the coast and it can get incredibly damp during the winter months.

Luckily only a small amount has been affected by this, but obviously I would like to stop it before it advances to the rest!

I should mention that my trades are all in plastic bags because I was afraid of the damp damaging them.

Any help or suggestions are welcome!

I think the bags are a bad idea without boards. You will just collect moisture and without the board the tpb will absorb it. Id recommend keeping your tpb's in the room with the most consistent temp., least natural light, and boarding them or ditching the bags. Plus adding a de-humidifier to that room would be a good idea.

Just my opinion, there will surely be people who disagree. FYI in my area of the world summers are very humid (moist) so I feel your pain. You should see the hell my guitars go through.

Thanks for the advice, especially the boards as I never really thought about it.
I assume everything comes down to the paper stock, as all my prose and text books remain almost perfectly fine.

I might try experimenting with some single issues, seeing what works best between removing them from bags completely and putting in some backing boards.

Some more input is always welcome if anyone else has any advice :)
