This might be a silly question but can a laptop with a N wifi adapter and/or a wireless keyboard/mouse cause an older laptop with a G wifi adapter to drop off the network intermittently? The hardware involved is a Dlink DIR-655 N router, an ASUS M50-SV A1 laptop, a recently build HTPC with a logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, and the Gateway laptop. The router is also in the basement.

If the router is stupid yes. Once a G device joins a N network, every thing should now run at G speeds. If the router is stupid it might not do this. it may also attempt to multiplex between G and N speeds which may also cause the issue. You either want to get a N adapter to replace the G adapter or set the router to G only.
