Just a reminder: we're doing a live tutoring session tonight, 8pm central time.
visit http://www.stickam.com/shwood to participate
Let's decide now what to put on the agenda... what do you guys want help with? If you have a cam, I'll be able to offer direct advice on your technique. Otherwise, it's an open forum. Ideas?

I don't have a cam, but I will tune in.
As I said in the other thread a few MacGyver like tricks with simple things you can find in a bar would be nice. Shot glasses, Matcher, Coasters, Pint Glasses, Straws, etc.
Hope this works out, I'll be watching

No cam here either (but plan on getting the Logitech 9000, if anyone has any recommendations) but I was interested in seeing what "Linking Fingers" looks like POV.
Also, as mentioned any card tricks that are fun and don't need much setup, like the Keycard, and any "found object" tricks.

Gak! I'm working at my bar during the show. Unless I can do a live feed from the bar, and get notes and critique as I'm performing... hmmmmmm
Anyone in Central MA with a Qik enabled phone?

is there any way I can turn my Palm Treo into a webcam??? it has a viedo camera and a USB cable.
Anyone know if it can be done?

I'll be on cam with the iMac built in, but can't aim it at my hands, so might not try tricks. If Someone needs the Cam-space, I'll bow out, and let you other guys play. Would rather see what you folks do, anyway. Such a Voyeur...
oh, and as a time killer before the show, discuss the Brian Lecture Threads while you wait. /postpimp

This sucks, I did have cards, matches, and coins, but I can't find the first two!!! I hate moving.
Edit, well I did find some cards at least
rabidbadger
08-07-2008, 12:15 AM
yeah. all my stuff is still packed in the attic. No cards. Don't even know if I own any.
And Brian, you owe me a trick deck. Just cause I want one. haha.

great show, eventhough I couldn't chat after you had to restart it from earlier!!!
are there other locations we can do this on??
I think you could do it without the peanut gallery and it wouldn't lag as much.
Keep up the good work, and thanks for taking my call

Great show Brian, even though the lag killed the "real-time training" it was lots of fun and you need to do another one soon. Check with Revision3 and find out what they use (ustream?).
Otherwise, I guess I'll have to wait for my beer-opening trick (you bastard!).:D

I thought the show was hilarious.
Especially when people wouldn't stop calling. :D

That was so much greater than I expected it to be. Brian should talk to the higher ups here at Rev3 and see if they will allow him to stream through their feed. They use BitGravity who has servers all around the world. And for chat, we could just use the IRC.

Why not just do what Tekzilla does with their live taping?

The reason Brian used stickam was so people could show themselves on cam doing the tricks. -- If it was Brian then he could have used Ustream.tv which can handle a lot more people.

overall, great first try. Not sure Brian knew it would be so popular. Might need to find a new host, who knows? But only stickum seems to have the abilty for us to show him our tricks. Didn't happen to night. Tonight was just an experiment. But succeeded in so many ways. Taking calls, reasonable feed, goodish chat.
Hard to argue.

It kinda sucked when I called because I asked about the human chimney and right in the middle while Brian and the other dude were explaining how they were able to not react to the burn, either my call got dropped or I hung up by accident. I don't know what happened, but other than that, I wanted to tell Brian thanks for showing us that trick and the puzzle (with the 4 quarters).
You're the best!

That was a great show! Thanks Brian for putting it on. I hope you do more shows like this. I had a problem with stickam would either freeze or kick me out of chat or cut out all volume but that's on my end I'm assuming lol. Hopefully I can figure out by the time you do it again. Keep up the great work!

Damn, watched the whole thing on stickam but at the 1hour mark it got cut off... And if you watch it literally cuts off right when your getting into the Imperial Palace story. lolz. So sadly i never caught the actual greatness of the story, If someone would be so kind to tell me/PM me the story that would be awesome.. there was so much build up for lol

I couldn't get the iSight working with The Stikam and was also busy packing for a 6am EDT flight, but I liked what I saw. ...and I was amused that when I called during the afterparty, Brian spent so much time talking about my podcast and my real life employer that I couldn't get a word in! :D

All I know is the "made up" story, may or may not have involved a Dealertainer who was under the presumed identity of Roy Orbison, and some interesting player dealer interactions during a $10 game of Black Jack. I missed pieces of the story because it was laggy, but I think I got most of the details.
Are you able to use the mind control to hit that 18 and get a 21???
Oh and if you ever need a forum freak to cohost an episode, I'll drive over to austin and drink with you...that is a sacrifice I am willing to make!!!

Yeah... I had a whole bunch of learning stuff lined up, and then once we started taking calls it was just too much fun. Next time, I'll pick something too complicated for a scam school episode and actually teach a brand new trick.

...and I'm still trying to figure out how to turn the martini glass optical illusion (which I mentioned way back at The 99) into a scam for a free drink.

I wanna hear about the Roy Orbison incident.. cut off for me too...
Another thing you could touch on quickly during the tutorial-cast... are exercises, techniques you might use to keep hands/fingers kool for the slight-of-hand stuff.
I've got skinny fingers (where light can shine between them) so its a bitch trying to show my palm but have a card gripped w/ the knuckle on the "backhand".. if ya know what I mean..
yeah, yeah, yeah :)
Oh... I forgot to start w/... here's the deal..

We call those "windows," and I've got 'em too. I'll do a session with you guys on proper palming technique, but the truth is, your misdirection can be good enough to cover even the worst windows... it really is much more about the acting and behavior of the magician more than technique.
Hey Brian,
Just found out about this site and Scam School and I must there are a lot of cool tricks to be learned here.
When is the next live video?
In regards to palming, I do a fake hand swap with poker chips and can tell that it is completely terrible but fools everyone because of the misdirection. Always get caught on the second try :D
