Why have the guys not played Geometry Wars Galaxies? It being released both on the DS AND the Wii, I would have to say I liked Geometry Wars Galaxies on the DS and Wii a lot more (though in a different way) than Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2.
The controls in the Wii version introduces the analog stick + wiimote aiming control scheme, which i have found to be extremely satisfying given some time to get used to it. The dual analog sticks kind of make me feel like i'm playing less accurately for some reason. The DS version of Galaxies basically allows you to do one of two visual schemes that will slightly change how you would play the game. You can have the gameplay on the top screen and use the bottom touch screen to shoot and the d-pad to maneuver (unfortunately there is no analog stick on the ds... but the d-pad isn't horrible). OR you can make the bottom screen the screen with the action, and you can actually aim and shoot directly at enemies. Though, there is a slight disadvantage considering your stylus and hand will create a slight blind spot at wherever it is at it's playing position. There is no escaping that there is a portion of the screen (that can be made smaller... if you held the stylus in a different way) that will be a very hazardous area if enemies were to come unexpectedly from it. Galaxies also introduced the Geoms multiplier thingies (that do reset after dying. which is not a bad thing. Geometry Wars RE 2 just wants you to get a higher score at a different rate.) Galaxies also has online LeaderBoards, which is freakin great. Oh, and did i forget to mention Galaxies' amazingly designed Galaxy mode? With a large amount of levels (64 to be exact) make this game dynamic and fun without making it a game that forces you to get the better score to have more fun. Of course getting a gold ranking for all of the levels is challenging and fun, but the mere diversity of the all of the levels is just amazing, and frankly Geometry Wars Galaxies was a step ahead of Geometry Wars RE 2 MINUS the HD graphics, and the 4 player multiplayer mode. The introduction of the new modes in Geometry Wars 2 RE 2 are entertaining, until you realize you will never beat a friends leaderboard score... or after TRYING to beat that score, you realize you've played the same mode for way too long, and then switching to another mode and repeating the process. Geometry Wars RE 2 is a true sequel to Geometry Wars RE in the aspect of just playing a mode until you get the better score, or have as much fun as you can, but if i could play Geometry Wars RE 2 with a wiimote and nunchuck........oooooooo. I would love to see a Geometry Wars Galaxies 2 that would include RE 2(no, not resident evil 2), and have a new galaxies mode (including new enemies). And it is odd that some of the enemies that were introduced in Galaxies didn't find their way to RE 2.
Multiplayer in Galaxies is also very rad, though only local. The Wii has Galaxies multiplayer, which allows you to play through about 10 or so levels that are found in the single player with a friend (really fun). The Wii version also has versus and co-op modes, which are in a regular rectangular level of Geometry Wars. The DS multiplayer modes includes Versus: Extremely Different than the Wii Versus, because it allows one player to fight off waves of enemies that are spawned by...the second player! The second player gets a unique screen that allows them to choose enemies and spawn them anywhere they wish, though there is a radius around the first players ship that cannot have enemies spawned there. And Co-op: both players on the same screen!! woo. same as Wii. And Simultaneous: Both players get separate playing fields, but try to get higher score.
Jeff, Alex, and Dan NEED to play this game. Especially if they enjoyed the new Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 release. I highly recommend it. I am also wondering what you guys think? The gorgeous graphics of the Xbox 360 aside..... (hopefully the Wii 2 will fix that), which one do you like more?
BTW. Geometry Wars Galaxies $19.99, on BOTH the Wii and the DS.
