anyway to get it in one big download?
I tried but couldn't figure it out. I did two hundred last night and just planned to do that each day. But if someone could figure it out that would rock.

I'm not usually big on the 'new' stuff. so if you're like me and like mostly obscure/indie music, these should tickle you in some way. These were always my favorite.

[both the "bedtime" and "afternoon" sets are quite nice radios. Includes downloads for each song featured]
http://www.epitonic.com/
[though long since abandoned and slightly broken; the collection of Independent music is choice.]

[smart-music.net has since been abandoned then squatted by a subscription service. But oddly enough archive.org caught many of the MP3's they featured. check any pre 2007 for
potential gems. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://smart-music.net]
Another interesting resource often overlooked is a bands official site. Ive found dozens of free downloads from official sites.

I second this. Also, "Paralyzed" by Bob Mould is worth a listen.

Another free indie music site: rcrdlbl.com
They partner up with indie artists and release a single. Very cool way to find out about some very cool bands.
Great thread by the way

I got into Pandora, but obviously, you can't download from there. It's got a great mix and the way that it recommends stuff is really great I almost never hear a song I don't like.

there are tons of songs available via the blogs that www.hypem.com aggregates.
honestly i don't know if it's legal, unless the blogs are allowed to post the songs if it's done in an editorial context. i don't know copyright law, but i am a lawyer and it doesn't sound likely :)
