I think if you look around, you can still find the trades. I would say...maybe 8 months ago, I was able to pick them up at my LCS, and I'm pretty sure Instocktrades.com has most of them in stock.

Did you just compare Robinson's Starman to Savage Dragon?

Before a war begins... I feel it necessary to point out that Savage Dragon absolutely accomplishes its goals in equal amount to Starman. Starman endeavors to be a deep, heady exploration of people, psyches and the modern concept of hero. Savage Dragon strives to be fun, easy to read, action packed and filled with tons of pop references that make you laugh.

Not everything has to be avant deconstructionism. :)

Well, the problem with the lack of a collected color edition is that because Savage Dragon is independent, it's going to take Larsen putting something together, coordinating with people, etc. to get that kind of book off of the ground. This may come to light now that Larsen is going to focus more on comic books again, but I think that's doubtful...it's very rare that Image books come out in big collected editions.

I have all the Savage Dragon books in TPB. The cover dress is all over the place, and something I know Larsen has expressed dissatisfaction with. The run from vol 1-11, then there is a number 15. I know that a third Archive version was solicited, but has since been canceled.

I am hopeful that Larsen will go and do something like what McFarlane did (is doing) with Spawn, and re-do the collected editions. Fingers crossed...

Erik is working on getting new collections out. He's been talking about the issues he's having and what he's trying to do with them on his messageboard. The problem with the old ones is that the series is going to hit 150 issues this year and the old trades would take 25 volumes to get all that. He wants to do bigger collections so it's easier for people to get them all, but bookstores like collections in a series to all be the same size and he is trying to figure out the best way to break it up. It will probably either be 10 or 12 issue collections, but he's really picky and has problems with breaking up the story in those intervals at different points in the series. He's also hoping to make them oversize hardcovers and is trying to figure out if that will be possible financially. He's also having trouble finding the files of the color artwork for some early issues.

Personally, I love the black and white Archives and wish he'd just put out volumes 3 and 4 of those.

It's good to hear that he's working on that, but as someone who has the other trades, starting off the bigger collections with where volume 12 would hypothetically start would be ideal. This way, I don't have to rebuy things I already have.

Did you just compare Robinson's Starman to Savage Dragon?

It maybe a little strong, but it doesn't mean that Savage Dragon wasn't great. Completely different styles, but #20-75 of Savage Dragon are fantastic comics.
