I just wanted to take the opportunity to talk to you guys about a project I am currently involved in. I came up with a really great idea for an online calendar (well more of a life organizer)/ social networking site over the spring. Sometime over the summer I teamed up with my buddy Nick to turn this idea into a reality. Were calling it KorkNote. Here is a rundown on what it is:

What Is Kork?

Kork is moveable content, multi-environments, focus driven, unique and nonconventional calendar application with a slight mix of social networking and business mixed together all while keeping it simple for users.

What is Kork (in English please)?

Kork is innovation. For years calendar/organizer applications have all been based on the same general UI (user interface). Recently, such applications have made their way online however, still following the same UI as used in prior apps. Many may use the argument that we are trying to re-invent the wheel however we feel that the “wheel of calendar/organizer apps” has yet to be made. Kork will be the application that will create the “wheel of calendar/organizer apps”.

Beyond Kork’s UI, Kork will have some really cool features that will distinct it from competitors applications. Kork also plans on adding social networking latter as a means of further expanding Kork and making it even more useful to the user.

At this point in time we are not releasing too much information regarding Kork however, if you check in on Kork’s blog from time to time you will be able to join us through the development of the worlds soon to be greatest calendar/organizer..

The site is still in heavy development and we are still searching for more developers. If any of you have experience in programming and think you could be of some help then PLEASE let us know! We would love to have you work with us, we really think this is going to be a huge success.

Beyond Kork, Nick and I are already planning another site that we feel will revolutionize blogging (planning will begin soon for that one). Our ultimate goal is to create an "online software company" dedicated to brining free online apps to people. This is really exciting, we can't wait to get Kork done and out in the wild. :)

Nick, Phatty ... have you guys seen Protopage?
I just had a look at version 3. Version 1 and 2 didn't work in Opera - not sure if it is upgrades in Opera or Protopage that fixed it, but now it looks amazing ... and unfortunately I think it is what you are trying to achieve with Kork.

Is there a prototype or a working demo?

Its similar but not exactly what we want to do with Kork. PostSticky is also doing something similar to Protopage. Korks main focus is going to be the calandar/organizer but we are still going to have a "fun" aspect to it (a little bit later though).

The problem with these sites that are similar to what we are doing with Kork is their UI. The moveable content gets cluttered very fast and the page is almost full with only 6 things on it. One of the things we REALLY focused on with Kork is the way that we handle our movable content. We came up with a method that will allow for their to be 30 items posted on one page without their being clutter. Its going to work really nice and it will also be really simple to use.

We are currently working on a re-design for the Kork site to market it a little better to developers. We are planning on having a flash slide show in a section on the main page showing off various sketches and such regarding Kork. Check it out once we get it up, it should give you an even better idea as to what we are doing with Kork. :)

...developers.... ...flash...

As a developer, let me tell you, those two words do not belong in the same concept together.

Just a bit of advice :)

I would love to develope a project management application like a basecamp. I have the ideas and my developer is to busy right now. Being a small business owner it is tough to find a good one that is not too much money (free would be better) that does exactly what I want and has the features im looking for.

If you focus on the calendar aspects, then you are onto a good thing. I hate Protopages calendar - it is a month view, no option to bring up just a day, or individual task.

I think something falling between basecamp and protopage (like Kork) will do fairly well.
