My ps3 sucks

So i got a ps3 yesterday (very cheap). and hooked it up to my tv. Now im not bragging now but id figure id give you full specs as a warning. Its a 3 year old RCA Scenium 50" HD DLP. The tv looks stunning on XBOX 360 and on dvd. Also my hd cable is amazing. BUT my tv dosent have a hdmi input. I went to Best Buy and spent SEVENTY ****ING DOLLARS on really nice compnent hi-def video cables for the multi-video out port on the ps3. Hooked it all up and started it up. THE PICTURE LOOKED LIKE SHIT. It was very grainy even in the menus after i set the resolution to 1080i. Mind you my xbox looks amazing. The ps3 menus are black and grey. Shit choice for sony. Anyways the video setting for the output of the multi-video out dosent support component, just the digital out does so i had to select that.

Second problem. the games look like ps1 games and i am talking about resistance. THE ONLY PLAY IN 720 AND WILL NOT UPSCALE TO 1080. THE DOWNSCALE TO 420. My tv dosent accept 720 as a format as do alot of tv's not made very recently. Ok, i figured i would just suffer cuz i already have the system. SOOOO i put a blue-ray of XMEN 3 in.

The menu looks incredible, the warning screens look georgeous. then the movie starts and the image jumps like crazy and LITERALLY looks worse than a vcr tape A VERY OLD VCR TAPE. This doesnt make sense since the menus are clearley hi-def and beautiful. I have done every thing i can to make it improve but cannot. My Xbox had none of these problems. I spent 3k on my tv 3 years ago and i have these problems, makes me wonder what kind of tv i would have to buy not for this piece of shit system. Im pissed.

If there are other topics of this then just ignore me but i have to vent when i spend more than 500 bucks for a huge dissapointment. Think they will fix this in updates?

I suspect that you've been screwed by DRM. Your DLP is 720p. However, I betting that the PS3 is not designed to deliver the full 1080 video though the component cables because the Blue-Ray DRM requires a digital connection with the display device in order to do so. Either the menus are easier for your TV to upscale or the menus are actaully being sent in 1080. Is there an info feature on your TV so you can verify that the video signal is actually hi-def. I poorly upscales 480i component signal would look pretty crappy on such a large TV.

I'm not sure what this thread is. Is it a warning, or are you looking for assistance? If you're looking for assistance I'd suggest going to the PS3 forums or calling their tech support. If I buy an 8800 GTX and then complain that my picture doesn't look any better after I've installed it when it turns out that I haven't done anything to the drivers... well it'll happen... Is it not possible that you've done something wrong? I find it bizarre that after being on the PS3 forums for the past week over at gamespot I haven't seen a thing like this.

Yeah, there was a report out the day after launch on this, so far the total reported problems account for 2% of the full library of games, and they have every intention of fixing the issue. At 2% I'm not really concerned, I can see why they wouldn't hold up launch for the issue as well.

The PS3 can not upscale 720p games to 1080i and it never will. The 360 does though so that's why its playing nice with your TV. Resistance runs at 720p so it's going to kick it down to 480p and you can't do anything about that other than going out and buying a new TV.

Your Blu Ray movie is also running in 480p so it seems. Why? Sony isn't saying. But reports of countless pissed off consumers have come in saying that when they called the help line Sony reps are telling them Sony is aware there is an issue and a firmware update will be released shortly addressing it.

Its my tv and its sonys fault for not integrating a way around this like xbox did. or at least putting the word out there. im not on a hate sony bandwagon.well at least not until now. I have a PSP, and I love the PlayStation 2. The PS3 is simply not for every user.

DOA looked better on Dreamcast :P Actually I remember thinking Sony was going to bomb when the PS2 came out. The XBOX and GameCube had better launches a year later, but IMO with DOA looking better, and games like Crazy Taxi, Power Stone, Metropolis Street Racer (Now project Gotham), Daytona and the like I thought that it wasn't looking good for sony.

I know a lot of people bought it at the time as it also played DVDs. It was still new at the time. I predict the PS3 will do fine. Especially if Blu Ray picks up, which in all honesty I don't see why. DVD was remarkebly different to VHS, and it also brought in a new crowd to collecting movies. All Blu Ray is, just prettier version of DVD that your regular joe, won't see anyway. I mean Beta was technically better then VHS and that didn't pick up.

Games wise, the Wii all the way! I can't wait to smash Rabbits in Rayman!

I have only seen magazines and websites list "SSX?;" no one has any clue. I know On Tour sucked, but that shouldn't mean they would give up on it all-together. Where has my favorite franchise gone?

Of the games out right now? Gears of War destroys the PS3. Sure Motorstorm looks great, but feels slow and is choppy. Plus as long as HD-DVD looks better than Blu-ray, I wouldn't see Blu-ray as a major seeling point for the PS3

I played 3 demo units; after waiting 4 minutes to get into the game, I crashed on all of them and the game would freeze for a second or two and then my car would come apart. I guess it could be because it was a demo unit, but it didn't impress me at all.

I was actually pretty depressed after playing the demo stations before the launch. Not sure if the demo is a newer build or what, but the one you DL from the Playstation store is amazing--put it in the first-person camera and it feels blazing fast.

Sony did not even make 400,000 units they had to cutback for launch to 200,000 for the US and still having manufacuring problems with the blu-ray diodes.

Sony is now not even sure thay can make the march date for europe.
