I got mine only about a month before the con last year, and there wasn't a problem. I'm pretty sure people were actually buying them on the day of the show, though I wouldn't advise it, as it involves a lot more waiting in line.

jujoji
10-24-2008, 02:16 AM
I went to the first NYCC and it was pretty cold. But while waiting in line (I went last minute, so didn't buy tix in advance) somebody was handing out old Marvel comics, which made the wait a bit more fun. I got a Thor from the late 70's (I think) where he had to deal with a riot in the Ghetto. Thor gets topical.
I do remember it being bitter cold when we left and just about froze to death just getting to the subway. At least it won't coincide with Passover this time. I had to miss it this year because of that. Of course, I made up for it by going to San Diego, which was really amazing. (That was only my 2nd Con - the NYCC was my first.)

Hey all, I plan to go to New York Comic Con this year, but I have to get a hotel in NYC, and was wondering if its worth the price of the hotel room to stay for the third day (Sunday), or do the guest artists and writers leave before Sunday, and there's nothing really worth staying for, as I have seen with other cons I've been to. What if I don't stay on Sunday would I miss out on (possible dealer deals?), I wasn't sure, and thought this would be a good place to ask. Thanks in advance.

I'm going to be around midday Wednesday to Sunday night. Never been to New York, sowhat do you recommend I do when not at the con?

Are the iFanboy crew going this year, and do you guys have anything special planned for it?

Hoping to be there for all three days. Coming from Philly so not far away, but I don't want to pay for/can't afford a hotel so I need my friend to come through with a place for me to stay. He has a place for himself but isn't sure if there is room for me.

Also, if anybody on here lives in NYC please let me stay at your house/apartment/dorm/etc. I am nice, don't take up much space, and will buy you beer.

I'd guess that the purpose of buying the autograph passes is to avoid some of the staggering lines that were there last year. But yeah, I'm with you. I'm already paying to get in, I'll take my chances with the crowds.

I never really got the appeal of autographs. Sketches, I get. Meeting the people, sure. But for whatever reason I never totally bought into that.

Didn't stop me from waiting outside after Dirty Rotten Scoundrels on Broadway to get John Lithgow's autograph, but that was more about seeing him in person.

I've always just used signings as an excuse to talk to the people, but at some point a lightbulb went off that I could do that anyway. . .

I need to work on getting up the nerve to ask for sketches (I've gotten some but only when the artist did it of their own initiative) but will probably wait until Heroes for that, based on the crowds and lines at last year's NYCC. I'm planning for this con to be more about hanging out with fellow fans -- though if I get a chance to talk to someone I'm a fan of, I won't complain.

I was thinking about bringing a sketchbook to Con with me to have different creators do sketches in it. I usually see them do sketches on boards and stuff like that.

Has anyone had any experience with getting them to do sketches in a book as opposed to boards?

I just want to make sure I don't screw up and insult them, or to make sure its no inappropriate to request the use of a book.

On that note, maybe there should be a NY comic-con etiquette write-up/podcast.

So both pre-con party events were kind of disappointing. Neither venue was really big enough. Dave and busters was big enough size wise but I had to stand around waiting for a drink. The CBDL party needed a much bigger venue. It was just way too small. Everyone was basically on top of one another.

I hope that the joint meetup works out better.

I'm exausted but I met a lot of nice people and got a lot of stuff signed:

I thought you folks would find this amusing. Today at the NYCC, amoungst other items, I asked Joss Whedon to sign my iPhone. He obliged, as did Tahmoh Penikett of Battlestar Galactica fame and soon to star in Whedon's latest creation. They were there to promote the upcoming debut of Doll House. Perhaps it's time to hit ebay and upgrade to the 3G. :)

Conor doesn't show up on film, huh? Figures...

Looks like fun, man. Wish I could have gone, but I had a play going up this weekend. And I live in NYC, too... so close, and yet so far.

I'm beating myself up over living in Canada and not going. Don't think I could stand to live in NY and not be there.

It just landed on a bad weekend, sadly. The worst part was, friends of mine came to the play... after having gone to Comic-Con. Talk about rubbing one's nose in it.

I think my favorite thing about those is your Ennis pic.

For some reason 'Premium Ticket Signing Time' is my new favorite sign.

Good pictures! I only have a few pics taken myself, and none of them have me in it cause taking pics with the iphone suck. Here's Jim Lee and Daniel Dae Kim.

Awesome batch of sketches. I'm still quite jealous of that Templesmith one.

Those are great sketches, especially's Ivan Reis's one.

But I also love it that all of those sketches are so detailed....and then Bendis's sketch is just so simple. I need to read Fortune of Glory cause that is a funny drawing.

I put up a few sketches I had done with my Livescribe pen on the livescribe site.

Here is a Ninja turtle I had done by Peter Laird.

With livescribe if you put it in fullscreen and turn previews off you can watch him make the sketch from scratch.
