As Tom Cruise goes about writing the next chapter in his career, he's developing an interest in comic book movies.
Together with Sam Raimi, he is setting up "Sleeper" at Warner Bros. Cruise is loosely attached to star in the adaptation of the DC Comics/Wildstorm comic that Raimi would produce with his Star Road Entertainment partner Josh Donen.
Written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips, "Sleeper," which ran from 2003-05, centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass it on to others through skin contact. He is placed undercover in a villainous organization by an intelligence agency and falls for a member of the group, named Miss Misery.

I read "developing an interest in comic book movies" as "developing an interest in making scads more money".

Augie made a great point on Twitter - if the movie ever does get made, that increases the chances of getting Sleeper Absolute Editions.

I don't think this will happen. Tom Cruise is attached to a lot of things but I would not be surprised if these doesn't get made at all. If it does though may-be Raimi will do right by it but then again I don't really think Tom Cruise is right for this part at all. But we will see what happens.

he's been involved as producer in some projects maybe that's just what he'll end up doing... one can hope.

Can I ask a question?
Why is the fact that Raimi and Cruise are attached a bad thing?
Raimi is a crazy SOB. Outside of Spidey 3, he has done solid work.
Cruise, despite how you feel about his personal life, is an awesome actor.
I really don't see why this is, "I need to drink to kill the pain" level here.

i COMPLETELY agree. i have learned over the years that i am a Tom Criuse apologist. he does great work. and Raimi knows how to do comic book movies.

Seriously.
I loved Sleeper. It's one of the books that the iFanbase got me to read and I'm eternally grateful for that.
Who did you expect to make it? We've got two really solid people holding the reigns at the moment and I'm really excited.

This is a horrid, horrid combination. You're not going to get me to say that it's promising at all whatsoever.
Who else?
David Fincher
Michael Man
Chris Nolan
Ridley Scott
Martin Campbell
Doug Liman
Paul Greengrass
need I continue?

I dunno ... Cruise's acting chops are kinda weak, IMO.
I mean, he's no Malkovitch or Downy Jr. or Oldman or DiCaprio ...
...Auberjonois, Baker, Cooper, Glover, Hoskins, Irons, Rickman, Alda, Arkin, Caine ...
I mean, he's no Kevin Bacon, right?
But, yeah, there are people who enjoy his work, I suppose.

Mann would be a damn interesting choice for this project.

I love Tom Cruise.
I've loved him in many a film, he stole the show in Tropic Thunder, but he's no Holden Carver

Six, don't take this the wrong way but I doubt there is anything they could do for this movie that will live up to your expectations.

Yes, yes they could.
The Bourne Supremacy team could make it.

I could see that, Six.
At the same time though, just saying a movie will suck just because of who MAY be making it is more then a little extreme.
I freely admit, despite my love of Favreau, when I first heard he was making Iron Man I wasn't the happiest cat on the block. Then the trailers and such started coming out....

Aaaaaaand I'm officially excited. Also, there is apparently only one headline that people are allowed to write for this wtory.
Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio Wake Up Sleeper
Brad Ingelsby is set to write the upcoming screenplay Sleeper for Warner Brothers. According to Variety, this adaptation of the DC/Wildstorm comic is set to star Leonardo DiCaprio and will be directed by Ridley Scott.
Sleeper centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass it on to others through skin contact. He is placed undercover in a villainous organization by an intelligence agency and falls for a member of the group named Miss Misery. While DiCaprio replaces the previously attached Tom Cruise, Sam Raimi is still attached to the project as a producer.
At this time, the film does not have a concrete start date.
