Happy birthday to itsbecca (tuesday) and Valo (wednesday)!

What did you do on your most recent birthday?

Happy Birthday, all ( including Paper who has a wed birthday) My last birthday was a rum filled ocassion topped off with a night of stand up - I actually killed it that night. I heartily reccomend Oreo Ice Cream Cake to all those celebrating their inception today. Oddly, I've always wanted to try an ice cream cake from ice cream guy in The Boogeyman. (couldn't find his picture.) Anyways, many happy returns all

It's probably due to global warming and/or gas prices and/or underrage Chinese gymnasts.

Cool story:

I recently started seeing a therapist every other week, and it's been a positive experience so far. Really helps. My doctor's a good guy, doesn't talk down to me or make me feel like I'm being studied. We talk a lot about writing and finding a career in writing. I'd mentioned that I write for a website, but I never elaborated. Just to keep things from being vague in today's session, I explained that I write about comics. And I was immediately on the defensive. I think most comic readers can probably relate. When you tell someone other than a friend that you're a comic reader, or even a comic columnist, there's the fear that the other person just doesn't get it or doesn't understand what we already know. That comics are just as valid a storytelling platform as a novel or film. So when I finish my rant about how the site I work for is comprised of a really thoughtful, intelligent community, he leans forward and goes, "So, when is Neil Gaiman going to write more Death books?"

We went on to discuss Sandman, Wormwood (the podcast), speculative fiction, and the Lovecraft inspired D&D group he joined in college. I'm loaning him my copy of Arkham Asylum the next time I go in.

What the hell are the odds?

Cool story:

That is awesome, Paper.

And you're absolutely right about that "defensive" quality. I never lead with the I'm a comics geek thing, but when it comes up, I've always got that "It's just a different medium, like movies or books" line ready in my back pocket.

Hey, if we send him a signed copy of our Wormwood script, will he discount his usual fee? :D

It's worth a shot.

The Lovecraft D&D thing actually sounded really interesting. I'm not a gamer, but the idea is kinda cool: Apparently your character gets less and less sane with each encounter with the Lovecraftian elements. So instead of gaining experience you actually lose your faculties. This is apparently how grad students in psychology and mathematics play D&D.

So, basically, every campaign you play in this world ends in misery, madness, and despair?

Hey iFanbase,

I've been out of touch with the forum for several months now. I don't think that I've ever shared that I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - a type of autoimmune disease. Back in the spring, I had a serious relapse. One of the consequences was that I had a difficult time reading or writing, hence my disappearance from the Rev3 forum and also from iFanboy.com. I'm making some progress and am encouraged. I have three major doctors with whom I consult. We're trying some new medications - I already take a bunch already - so I am hoping for good results. Another result of my illness is that I've gotten way behind in reading my beloved comics. Starting to catch up, but it is a challenge at times - concentration issues.

That's what's going on with me.

Cheers,

Steve

thanks man! there's a really good article on the game here (http://www.tfponline.com/news/2008/aug/23/david-brainerd-tops-sunbright-opener/)

A quick rundown, Brooks Thedford and Will Keebler have been playing football with me since the 6th grade. Helping to give them the chance to get this kind of exposure in our senior year really makes me happier than I can describe.

I personally had a mediocre game, I only had six tackles, which is a paltry sum for a middle linebacker, and I had one bad snap, which is unacceptable.

To get specific it really depends what you intend to use it for.

Personally for me, if you want a laptop I prefer Mac. They are painless and will resell for a lot more than a PC laptop will. So if you decide to upgrade later it will be easier.

I am not a huge Mac guy either. For me, PC=Work and Mac=play.

As far as desktops Id say either would be adequite.

Definitely true, but I usually hang on to a computer until it dies so reselling for me isn't an issue.

I would say just get your selling price by checking mac refurb sites and ebay. Then just use ebay to sell it. Actually you being in a major city you might want to look locally, craigslist or something.

My stats for the day~

92 posts in the private General Discussion
23 in the private Film & TV section
47 posts in the Music section
13 in the Literature section

19 on another music forum
7 on yet another music forum
14 on another general interest/hijinx forum

It was fun. Not too dissimilar from what we do here- running jokes, photoshops, busting each other's balls, et cetera.

The General Discussion was a free-for-all of unrestrained posting. We got to be as sarcastic, flip and mean as we wished. The Admin turned on HTML and the shit we did in threads (and to one another's browsers!) was nothing short of visionary.

There was more serious discussion on the ancilary message boards where our hijinx were less than ideal and in the private forums sub forums of film & TV, music and literature.

Ended the night by mass invading another web site and spamming it. Which was awesome coordinated internet chaos when the IP bans began rolling in.

I opened Photoshop 15 mins into the marathon and knew I would not close the program for the rest of the day.

Board hard or get of the internet.

Yeah... no, this is exactly the kind of shit I got tired of. Glad you had fun though Labor.

Not everyone can board at a high meta level.

It was fun. Not too dissimilar from what we do here- running jokes, photoshops, busting each other's balls, et cetera. Oh sure, I get it. I was mainly teasing. It's just not for me. I think that the reason I like message boards here (or really just in general) is because I can come to it when I want. I can take it or leave it. If i have something to say, I say it. So doing a kinda marathon would, to me, feel like talking to keep talking, rather than talking because I have something to say -- you get the idea. It's not for me, but I'm glad you had a blast.

Sure, sure. I enjoy that aspect of forums too.

But keep in mind this was a private board where all the members are good friends online and off. We had lots of material/topics to bandy about.

No different if one were spouting off 20 twitters a day and forum posting. Though admittedly, this particular message board group is comprised of media folk, graduate students, music writers, journalists, musicians, artists and bloggers. To say we are a verbose bunch is...an understatement.

Gurgle Gurgle glug glug -- My media blackout is now lifted, and I finally (after being in this country for 7 weeks) have internet at home, after moving from Tokyo to Korea. Whew. Now getting settled in the Cool Korean Burbs of Incheon. I am feeling much more settled, as opposed to all the bumpy chaos of the past 6 weeks. This weekend I go shopping at the local mega mall at Incheon Arts Center for a telephone set (got the hard line, but no thing with the buttons and thing you hold against your head). I also got a line on where I can get my comics to catch up with Secret Invasion, Final Crisis, etc.

Got lucky - got to see Dark Knight when it first came out on IMAX, as they have an IMAX theater at the megamall. I was with two American teachers, and everyone else was on a date. We sat center, row 16 or thereabouts, great seats. Going from Tokyo to Incheon, Korea, I am not sure you can imagine the depth of my media blackout.

The movie itself? I want to marry Christopher Nolan. I may have to build a shrine to that man. Saw the first one on DVD again a few days ago. Wow and wow.

Three things:

-No new GD thread?

-Welcome back, DrWally. Glad to hear all is well!

-Anyone that looks down on Labor for his craziness must be reminded of a certain night we all spent on YahooLive that resulted in a makeshift bubble boy/cult initiation ceremony.

Thankfully I have recovered from the operation!
