I'm staying out of the whole XGL stuff. I prefer just a shell, and nothing more. I believe it helps me interface with the computer more so than anything available.

I'll probably try it out tonight or tomorrow once I get my 2nd hard drive installed and finish downloading the new ubuntu cd :)

i've used XGL, i just don't think it's that great...MacOSx can do the same stuff with less graphics power

I have it turned on in my SLED box, but I think XGL kind of sucks. It looks pretty and all, but its a lot of fluff and doesn't improve my usability at all. OS X does it with less power all while increase usability. The multiple desktops in Leopard are the best I've ever seen, the cube isn't great for speed and seeing everything thats going on

the wobble windows are utterly pointless eye candy

Or you could show off just about everything else to Windows users that makes *nix great.

I will never ever use XGL. It's a waste of my time and a waste of my processor's time.

even the most basic window managers in *nix do transparencies. just set the alpha to any number below 255. i use fluxbox and it is a very simple task to accomplish.

yes i know that but its not as good as the xgl's transparentcies
