depends if you're looking for a proxy-like app or an app to keep people from getting to your web history, cache, etc. for a proxy app, i'd say go with Tor

Yes, tor with the proxy server plug in with Firefox should do you just fine. :)

Tor is your best shot for anonymity though it comes at the cost of exceedingly slow internet connections. There's no such thing as true anonymity on the internet really - so be wary of anything that promieses just that.

Yeah, no kidding. I tried several of the proxies and man, did it ever feel like I was on dial-up again. Some sites failed to even launch. Guess I'll keep searching.

Depends how long you want to remain anonymous. I use anonymouse.org if I only need to visit 1 or 2 sites and don't care about the speed.
