This makes me very happy, I have no idea who they were going to even attempt to put this Garth Ennis classic on the small screen.

This makes me sad. I would have loved to have seen this translation, and if there was any avenue on TV where it could end up being faithful it would be HBO.

If the show ended up a poor adaptation it would only mean that there was another show that I could ignore. The comics would remain the classics they are today. If the show successfully captured the comic then I'd have been one happy camper, and I feel like as long as they didn't censor any of the content it could have been done pretty well.

I put Garth Ennis in with Alan Moore. If it can't be made well don't make it. Given the buzz on this over the last 6 months it really wasn't looking good.

A high-budget, 10 + hour HBO miniseries would probably be the best way to do Preacher.

I'm not aware of the buzz, so I can't really comment on that.

I can say that I'm glad people are trying to make Alan Moore comics into films. I didn't care for From Hell the movie, but the book is all kinds of awesome. I hated A League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but the books are still cool. V for Vendetta didn't match the book but it was still a great film in my eyes. My hope for the Watchmen film grows daily.

Sure, I'd have preferred all good Moore films, but if I can get a few good ones I'm happier than if I had none at all, and you'll still find me rereading most of those every year or two.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying, but I have concern with cheapening the source material. I've seen too many books I love marginalized by a weak movie. Not many people go back and read the original if the movie they've seen already isn't very good. There was so much to the story of Extraodinary League that I have no idea how anyone thought they'd cover even a 10th of the book in the movie... and then to find that the movie had little resemblance to the book was just sad.

Yeah, it can't go much worse than that League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film. I've seen some bad adaptations, but that one takes the cake.

I'm very saddened but really relieved at the same time. I would love to see a live-action Preacher series, but if they can't do it right, then no thanks.

It definitely wasn't helping that Mark Steven Johnson was producing. Everything that guy touches turns into a joke.
