when i finished braid, i thought i was pretty awesome for beating the puzzles.

then i heard about the 8 hidden stars and the hidden story bits at the end, and read about how to get them. that's when i felt like a fool - because there's no way i would have EVER come up with the things that people are doing to find these things.

i won't spoil them in this thread, but to give you an idea: one of the stars involves waiting approximately 2.5 hours for a cloud to cross one of the levels.

here are links to walkthroughs:

this may have been what Blow was talking about when he said there are things in the game nobody had discovered yet when he was interviewed by 1Up.com...

I first heard about this stuff today as well. Never would have thought of it...

In my opinion, this isn't a good thing. I mean, it's not clever at all. Anybody could come up with a "alright, lets put something hidden in here that nobody will figure out, and they have to wait two hours for it to happen".

Most people will probably read that it takes 2 hours or whatever for that cloud to pass, then set their clock or something, and do something else. Then come back and do whatever it is you need to do.

Is that fun? Waiting?

Not fun to do, fun to discover. I'm sure the stars were figured out quicker than he expected, I'm sure the vision was that once someone accidentally found one and noticed the change in the constellation it would set off some sort of collaborative internet search for the other 7. I like the idea.

Not fun to do, fun to discover.

But isn't that like going on a search for a piece of shit? It's all fun and games when you're looking for clues trying to figure everything out, but once you find it you have to eat it.

This is kind of stupid. It's cool that they add a little extra something for players who takes their time. But 2 hours is just ridiculous.

I think this kind of easter egg is awesome. It isn't something required for the game, it's just a reward for the craziest of the hardcore fans.

Two hours is excessive to the point that it makes me wonder if someone leaked this info. I can't imagine someone waiting around in that level for something like that to happen without being told to expect it.

Oof. Never ever would have known those stars were even there without this post.

I had seen the stars out in front of the house and thought they were significant, but I never got around to finding out what they meant until now.

bwahahahaha! now that's funny. Another analogy comes to mind: You can put a top hat on a turd. But at the end of the day, you still just have a turd; albeit a turd, wearing a little top hat.

I think wise Chinese man say these things.

I agree with the point, though. I'm NOT ever going to let a game run for 2 1/2 hours waiting on a friggin mario cloud to pass. I haven't exhibited all 3 types of retardation yet, so I say HELL NO to Jon BLOW. :< I'm sure he thinks he's very clever for that, though.

Must say: Absolutely loved the game otherwise. I still dream about rewinding things.

I think Braid was a good little fun brain teaser, but the maker went WAY WAY over board with these stars, especially the world 2-2, how the f are you supposed to figure that one out? Waiting for 2 hours for the cloud to go from right to left? Last time I checked, games were supposed to be within the realm of fun, and adding this to the game in order to give the gamer a sense of completion is way off base. I think Blow went a bit too overboard here, along with a few other things. Without youtube, people would absolutely never figure that one out unless someone sat there for at least 30 mins while on the phone and by accident noticed the f'ing cloud was moving, or the fact that your can't finish world three beforehand, if you do you won't be able to place the star. Some of the puzzles are great but this is nothing more then a great little indie game that doesn't hold a candle to another indie game, Darwinia, which is what I like to use when thinking about very small indie developers. I was actually shocked to hear Dan and epsecially Jeff completely gush over this game, had to scratch my head at that one....

I think the art in the game is great and sound, but I'm completely with Alex on this one, just didn't do it for me in the end and I'm trying to figure out wtf is all the fuss. I would certainly recommend it as an XBLA game to pick up but I'm hearing it compared to portal, which is fucking insane, period. To me, it's not even in the same ballpark concerning the "fun factor" and replayability. I think the juice is going to wear off in about a month after all the buzz wears off.
