Wait, I just remembered... no I'm not. In fact, I can't believe these guys make enough money, to keep churning out this crap. They have totally grabbed a hold of the genre of spoof movies, and taken a big fat dumpsky all over it.

I lose faith in humanity every time I see a commercial for this movie. I actually turned off the TV yesterday when one came on.

I miss the days when the guys used to do Naked Gun, Airplaine! or Hot Shots. But it all went downhill after Scary Movie 3. That led to Date Movie, Scary Movie 4, Epic Movie (which was terrible from what I saw), Meet The Spartans and there were some other crappy ones I'm sure. I will say the only other movie besides the first Scary Movie even worth watching is Not Another Teen Movie. They keep making these movies probably cause they are cheap and people are paying to see them. I would be fine if these just went straight to DVD and I never saw a trailer for them.

meet the spartans was dire!! i almost felt like asking for my money back!! luckly i had lots of pick and mix sweets to keep me entertained!
but i agree that the 80s spoofs were funnier but then they just tried to be funny as oppose to trying to see how many films they can try and spoof.

I never saw the first 2 Scary Movies, but 3 and 4 were pretty OK. Epic Movie had some laughs but Meet The Spartans was TERRIBLE. Utter garbage. This looks like a step up. The Alvin and the Chipmunks thing looked funny in the commercial.
I'm not saying this is going to be a great movie, but I personally enjoy the genre. (Loved Hot Shots as a child, Naked Gun was great.) I want to see Disaster Movie, but will be wary from here on out if they hit me with another Meet The Spartans. Blech!

I'm sorry but I don't consider these movies as in the same genre as Naked Gun or Hot Shots. Maybe the 1st two Scary Movies and Not Another Teen Movie, but that is not quite there. The biggest difference between early 80's spoof movies and these were there was a plot then. A pretty decent one that held on its own. These are more how many movie scenes or plot points can we rip off and try to make sense that it would happen. Like Epic Movie and it's MTV Cribs rip off? I was ready to destroy my TV at that point. Amtrekker did a better job at it. I think it was the 1up Yours show or 1Up FM that they started calling these movies Sketch movies. Just one after the other. Because the plot doesn't matter because the directors I think they forget what it is too.

The nice (and unfortunate) thing about these films is that they are cheap to make and can make back their budget fairly quickly, which is why we'll continue to see these flicks until the apocalypse. The only movie of this sort that I ever really enjoyed was Airplane. The rest were funny, but I was already cued into the formula by then so I got fairly bored with it. I definitely agree that these should be called "sketch" films, because there's not much of a plot stringing these spoofs together.

Yep, loved the old 80s spoofs...even liked the scary movies up through 3 (4...which wasn't BAD, was just a bit dull...but then, I don't consider the movies they focused heavily on to be scary, either.)
epic movie was epic fail...and disaster movie, I can't even pick out any disaster movies it's spoofing in the trailer, so maybe it'll just be self-descriptive.

every time one of these movies comes out it cheapens the brilliance that is the Airplane series.

I'm just surprised they even make commentary tracks for this crap. I was 'watching' Date Movie and got bored after 5 minutes...turned on the commentary track and it's just two guys talking about what they did that day and how nobody would listen to this anyway.

Same thing with Epic Movie...in fact, they seemed to be doing it for laughs but it was even less funny than the movie. Yes, that was possible...as the commentary proved.

I actually liked the first Scary Movie. The idea of taking a whole genre of movies and making a parody of it was a good one.
But basically, they aren't even doing that anymore. This movie is called Disaster Movie, so one would assume they are parodying disaster movies. But all I see in the commercials are parodies of Juno, Sex in the City, Chipmunks, Zohan etc. They should just be calling these movies "Late '07 Movie" "Early '08 Movie" etc.
And seriously, you can't parody a goddamn comedy. Parodies only work when you take something serious and make it funny. If something was funny already, and you parody it to try and be funny, your just doing the same joke. That's just plagiarizing.
And then of course there's the fact that these movies are just all around mind-numbingly retarded. Lets not forget that. It's probably the most important thing.
