There were a lot of books, and you're getting 13% more show than usual! Plus, Josh has some issues with the script.

We discuss Conor's Pick of the Week for August 27, 2008:

The glasses that Captain Cold wears are used to help prevent snow blindness. Sure Keystone/Central City isn't an arctic wasteland, but it goes with the ensemble.

There's a preview up for the next DD issue (http://www.newsarama.com/php/multimedia/album.php?aid=21952), the art looks very much like Lark's

Aw man, had I known Guerillas had real gorillas in it, I probably wouldn't have bought it. (Haven't read my copy yet.)

I absolutely loved Guerrillas #1 all up until the final page. I went from giddy to devastated. Loved the art, loved the story, saw that last page, and just let out a long sad sigh.

As regards to the gal e-mailing about what's a good comic containing art that tells the story, I highly, highly recommend Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid On Earth by Chris Ware. The art is amazingly simple, yet so gorgeous.

I wasn't into the Gorilla thing at all, and honestly, if I had really thought about it, I might not have been into it. However, since the rest of the book was so good, I'll give the gorillas the benefit of the doubt.

Guerillas didn't feel like a retread of every other Vietnam story to you guys? I dunno, it just didn't feel special to me. I wanted to like it. I admire the guy's efforts. Haven't decided if I want to pick up issue 2 or not.

I think that was the point. It was supposed to be a well written Vietnam story that hit a lot of the "typical" war story ideas. Once you were all settled into that they wanted you to say WTF at the end. I think it was very deliberate in that case.

With apologies to Paper's muse:

It was a dark and stormy night.

A shot rang out. A door slammed. A maid screamed.

Suddenly a pirate ship appeared on the horizon.

(addressed to audience): This sudden twist in plot will baffle my readers!

[This is, ahh, not a commentary on 'Guerillas', which I didn't read, but a general note on the risks of such deliberate twists :)].
