So is this the one I've been waiting for or is there one coming down the pipe that I should dust off my Best Buy credit card for? I know nothing of PS3's but I've wanted one for a while. If anyone has some input on these SKU's please let me know.

If you were gonna get an 80G you should have gotten the first 80G they offered since its the one that actually had some PS2 compatibility.
None of the currently available PS3s have any PS2 reverse compatiblity. Right?
Anyway at this point if you are gonna get a PS3 the 80G package is probably the one to get. Might I suggest the MGS4 bundle also, since that's a pretty good game to have.

If you can still find the MGS4 bundle it is backwards compatible with PS2 and is 80 GB and comes with MGS4. It's $100 more for a $60 game and backwards compatibility, but I'd say it is worth it.
Otherwise, the only other thing you might wait for is a price drop from $400 to $300. I don't see them adding the backwards compatibility back in on any of the newer models. Since it is software based, I'd imagine if they rethink this policy they'll push it out to all systems that don't currently have it, though that could definitely be wishful thinking on my part.

My buddy just got a MGS4 bundle on the weekend, and I was at FutureShop, and they had a bunch there, so they haven't disappeared yet.
However, if you don't care about PS2 stuff, go with the new 80GB - they use less power, and they are the same hardware as the 160GB coming out (hard drive aside).

I thought about the MGS bundle but I've never played a MGS game and the only games I have for the PS2 is GTA set. We'll see what the weekend holds for me. I did pick up some blu-ray disks today at lunch. Can't wait to go home and finish setting up the new PC to try them out.

And unlike the X-box 360 swapping the hard drive out on a PS3 if you feel you don't have enough room is quite simple. I have a 120 gig waiting to go into mine, but to be honest I've yet to get close to filling my 60 gig drive.

I'll look up which thread it was but someone helped me out with links on how to swap out your hard drive and such. I just need some money for a bigger hard drive. Hoping 200 gig should be enough. I'm a media freak so I back up music and video so that'll be sweet when I finish with it.

Losing BC sucks until you think about it.
In all your BC systems(console to handheld) how often do you use it really?
Besides I am that guy who hangs on to his sytems as much as I can, still hooked up but maybe that shows I am single ATM <_< >_>.
heh....
Anyway only thing that would bother me is lack of SD card support past models have just because I am that geeky.
Like others have said just add a bigger HDD and slap it in.

Damn dude, we're in the same spot. I have 8 ps2 games, 5 of which are GTA's, and 3 others on my ps2 hdd. I want the 60GB PS3 to play my GTA's and other lil crappy games with the true chip B/C, not software emulation, but it seems they are being phased out, which sounds mucho sucko grande. I too don't care about the MGS series. Nice ot look at, but I'm not going to jump in to a series that large, this far into it.

For the record guys, I never liked MGS games. I got MGS4 (to give it a chance, as I did with GTAIV) and expected the outcome to be the same, but instead, it turned out to be probably the most epic game I've ever played. Best mech controls of any game, ever. Kojima needs to make just a mech game next. I followed the story easily enough, having none of the history. It's really a good game, I think.

You can use SD cards if you have an SD card reader by plugging it into one of the USB ports, so it's not *that* big a deal, IMHO.

Nah it's not a big deal,I am just geeky about that.
I just like that it's there.(TEH COOL FEATURE);)
Would ever affect my decision on a purchase.
Dolson does PS3 have orange box and if so is it a good port? I love portal, be nice to play it on something I can sit on my couch and not with my PC doing a hicup here and there 2 feet away from the monitor.

Yup, it has Orange Box. I've only played Portal on it, though. I did start Half-Life 2, but the voices were too quiet until I was very close to the characters, so I didn't play too much of it. I haven't yet finished Portal, but so far, it's been fine.
FashionDR also has it, and he says that the Half-Life games are ported well.. I just have that audio issue, but he doesn't, so YMMV. Portal doesn't have that problem though. I don't play TF2 at all. I really only bought OB for Portal, myself. :)
