OK, Now I know we have a few Brits in the group.

Everytime I go over to my Fathers house, To fix whatever he has broken, He is watching this British show called "Last of the Summer Wine". What I need to know is, Is this something that is popular over there. I sit down to rest, or grab a drink, and try to watch this show...But just dont get the point of it. He tells be that this is the Seinfeld for the UK. But I just done see it.

Is this true, or not?

The last of the summer wine is the longest running sitcom in the history of the world. My roomate loves it, and I dont get it at all.

The Last Of The Summer Wine is really aimed at older people and by older I mean much much older. If you are getting a pension, are over 50, or enjoy watching OAPs getting into "hillarious" slapstick adventures then maybe... maybe you might smile at one or two of its jokes.

To call it popular over here is probably a strange use of the term. It's like calling the 9 o'clock news popular. Yes it is the longest running comedy but I'd never call it a Seinfeld, it's just part of BBC TV. It was on TV when I was born and most likely be still on when I die. No doubt in 30 years time I'll be a huge fan of it

I used to enjoy Last of the Summer Wine when I was a child and I firmly believe that when I am over 65 (if the yum yums don't give me a heart attack first) I will find it funny again.

The BBC is rather conservative with its sitcoms and therefore they're suitable for anyone to watch but not for everyone to enjoy. If you like dry humour, a lot of BBC sitcoms will not appeal.

This is all my opinion and I am sure others will disagree.

Both my sets of grandparents loved this show, and to be honest I found parts of it quite funny. Can't remember his name, but there was one re-occuring character that would keep a ferret in his pants... bizarre and hilarious.

Last of the Summer Wine is like your favourite chair or pair of slippers, it's a very comfortable. It's just a nice show to have one, to unwind to, occasionally laugh along with. It's the TV equivalent of easy listening and seems to go down better the older or younger you are. Pensioners and under 10s seem to enjoy it the most.

As someone else said, it's been running longer than the Earth has existed....I'm not exaggerating either (ok, maybe a little).
