View Full Version : Welcome to the Politics Forum - but first some rules of order ...

1. Read the Revision3 Rules of Conduct (http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=703) post.
2. Rules #2 and #3 are still in effect, but political discussions can/will get heated so a little name calling is expected (ever watched question time in the British Parliament?) ... just make sure that the attitudes are not carried over into other areas of the Revision3 forums. This is not an invitation to start name calling and flaming others, but a warning that it is something we anticipate will happen - do not escalate the argument, step away from the keyboard, take a deep breath and come back. Political discussion often needs a thick skin from both sides of a debate.

It is expected that this forum will be dominated by the US 2008 Election over the upcoming months. If you are from somewhere else (ie - not the US), don't let that stop you from participating.

Damn ... I thought I'd closed this thread after creating it.

Leave it to left wing treehugger Grumbles to discover it was unlocked.

As you can tell in my sig I try not to be a 'keyboard commando' and make personal attacks on someone else just because of their political opinion. I do hope that political discourse here will be less immature than that of a street corner discussion.

I am glad to see this section, and appreciate the notes, especially the warning in number 2 that things can get heated, so to expect it. Name-calling and such can happen, but there's a line between it being like a few buddies sitting around debating with some beers, and then outright "fighting word."

I think we can agree no hate speech. That's an obvious one. But someone probably will be offended by something typed -- that's inevitable in all communication.

Yes, we're not looking to be keyboard commandos, but if you choose to go commando while on the forums is totally up to you.

Interesting. from urban dictionary. I love word/phrase origins.

commando
From the Scottish term "going regimental" meaning to stay traditional and not wear undergarments under one's kilt.

P. Norton, You listening... :)

(oh, and i swear this "politics" thing is either gonna get me permabanned or Pragernated, Ideally by Prager himself.)

see, over the top already!

(and maybe "commando" should be the title for over 20,000 posts)

So, hey, It's been more than a month since the political forum started, and I must say, I think it's going well. There have been very few nasty flare ups, and we all dealt with them quite well. The Mods have been very attentive here, and that helps a lot. But mostly, we have all been ladies and gentlement here. Good Job folks!

I think you have too much faith, where very little is warranted.

There are 2 sides to the debate.

The rational, and the delusional.

Well maybe a third side, which would be the lying 3rd party interests, but hopefully they don't have a forum account here

You can tell if someone's rational because they are more likely to not want to be called a teapartier or a republican. The rational people will move to other parties (not necessarily democratic)

That is why the number of independents are growing. Rational people have no leaders to rally behind in the republican party and are being treated like they're a demonic essence that needs to be exorcised.
