Maybe we could have a more international focus? Has anyone been following what's going on with this guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Mugabe)?

I only have basic knowledge and have not followed it much, so would love to learn some more. From my understanding he lost elections and refused to give up office, or did I pull that out my behind?

You're right that he's refused to step down after losing an election, and I believe he slaughtered most of the political opposition.

Best Mugabe quote ever:

"We must defeat the whites!" -Robert Mugabe

Mugabe is a dictator who refuses to give up power. Simple as that.

Why more people aren't fuming at the mouth over this on both sides of the aisle is slightly disappointing.

As Americans we should support free/clean elections both here and overseas. And yes BOTH parties have histories of voter fraud. Americans should be harder on ourselves and make sure that free/clean elections occur across the globe.

And one more thing: the nice thing about living in America is that when an election is over we don't normally have to worry about insane violence and civil unrest. Go USA.

I agree completely.

I've stopped being surprised, but I'm always depressed.

Mugabe has fought hard against whites and homosexuals, got his country involved in the second Congo War, held his office after losing an election (a very dirty election, at that), and he handled the whole situation incredibly violently. Definitely not a very nice dude.

And I recall seeing on BBC news after he "won" the election he was sitting either at the UN or some organization, representing the country, and nobody is making any noise about it. I believe the Opposition that won had to go into hiding at that time.

Aw dude, I really wish you had seen the report I had. He was pretty much set to lose that election. Sadly, because of increased threats on his party and their supporters the other side withdrew from the election. Now, I can see that as a nice move (protecting his supporters) but not all that intelligent. The other guy withdrew to save his supporters from persecution but just think of how many more lives would have been saved had he been elected. I'm not too sure of the guys name so if anyone wants to post it go right ahead. This also brings to mind the movie "The Last King of Scotland" which was a fairly accurate portrayal of how a corrupt, sick man can fool the rest of the world into thinking he's some kind of "nice guy".

Heh, Mugabe even rewarded those who got medals in the Olympics who were natives of his country and yet he mercilessly kills hundreds. Really makes you wonder where our priorities are as a nation.........

Why don't you post the report then?

I think it was an HBO or CNN special documentary. Actually, I'm almost positive it was an HBO documentary.

Haha. I know I thought, and I think Sam thought, that you were referring to a written report that you had written.

Stop thinking things I thought that you and I both thought. I think I can think thoughts without you thinking what you thought was also what I thought.

At least they (Zimbabwe) are fighting for something more than "celebrating" the win/loss of their local team.

Yeah. Go USA
