I put up a spoiler warning on this thread because I am guessing there will be discussion after this initial 1st post. I will not, however, spoil anything in this post.
I picked this up after reading the 1st trade of The Sword by the Luna Brothers. I had liked The Sword so much that I looked into what else they have done and this came up along with Ultra. Taking a quick look at Girls kinda turned me off. I thought it'd just be a stupid little book with lots of nudity and sexual inuendo. After reading reviews of Girls, I just had to check it out, so I read the 1st issue on www.imagecomics.com and bought the $99 collectors edition soon after.
This is the story of the residents of Pennystown. A small, population 63 town in the middle of nowhere. We meet a slew of great characters. The boy who has girl troubles, and his friend who likes to blow stuff up. The valiant sherif, the preacher and his wife, and even the out-of-towner. On the outside, it may appear that the only thing these people have in common besides knowing one another, is that they were all in the wrong place, at the wrong time. What happens when you take 63 people and put them into a seemingly hopeless situation? Read Girls to find out.
This book has so many twists and bizarre turns that I am still flabbergasted by the story. Note, that this isn't a children's comic. It is very adult. Plenty of nudity and sexual innuendo, and violence. It's not grotesque, but it's defiantly there. In the end, it all comes together. (Edit) I had emailed TRS to see if they had heard of or read this comic at all. Jeff said they haven't, but he was going to check it out. Lets hope he likes it enough to bring it up on the show, I'd love to hear their take on it. (/edit)
