WOW
I must say, John McCain's speech was incredible! I don't think I've ever been moved that much when listening to a speech. It moved me so much that I just HAD to stand and cheer. This is exactly the kind of person we need in office!
You have my vote Senator McCain and I thank you for your loyal service to our country.
Let's go McCain!!
McCain/Palin 08'
Anybody else get as pumped after this amazing speech!?

I thought it was fairly bland. Not just because I'm a democrat, either (which I'm not, being a Canadian and all).
Mostly I just get frustrated with the amount of times he has to bring up being a war hero. He also seems to know everything, which is possible since he was born before Christ.

All I can think about when I hear Mccain is
http://silencedmajority.blogs.com/silenced_majority_portal/images/2008/06/13/mccaindumbinternetnd8.jpg
He seems like a nice guy but seems too old for the job. I remember seeing something where they showed you how Bush looked coming in and how much worse he looked age-wise not too long after, and then 2 terms later you can really see it.
Mccain already looks like he is falling apart like a piece of wet toilet paper.

Well I do.
It's a stressful job, I would imagine. He'll fall apart more.
But if we both think he's not fit for the job, the route we took to get there shouldn't really matter - we're meeting at the same place.

I will be physically sick if he wins. We don't need to continue this war. America can't afford it in either dollars nor lives. Do you really want to be drafted? You think it can't happen, right? That's what they thought during Vietnam. No god-damned way would McCain be a good president. He is too out of touch with reality.

Yeah there's a difference. Skin colour is not a legitimate reason. How the candidate looks in term of being able to physically keep up does. It seems as thought presidents take a beating physically when they take office. He looks like he will fall apart.
Age isn't that big of a deal if the person looks fit enough. To me he doesn't. In the videos I have been seeing it seems as though a bit of senility is setting in. I don't know much about the issues, but physically he ain't ready.

Why isn't it a legitimate reason? Your argument is McCain taking office would put him at risk of "falling apart".
Now I'm going to use the race argument:
Can't one argue that Obama's skin color makes him a target of assassination by hate groups? McCain may "fall apart" but he'll still be alive. It's possible some racists folks my try to kill Obama.
Not saying I agree with any of this. Just trying to get you thinking about this from another angle.
*And for the record doctors have determined he's physically fit to be president. He released his medical records to the public.
Utter garbage. I'm not continuing this argument, I don't see the point.

McCain may "fall apart" but he'll still be alive.
If he physically falls apart, we'd have a president who admits to not paying attention to foreign policy. And we're in the middle of multiple wars. This is very dangerous.
*And for the record doctors have determined he's physically fit to be president. He released his medical records to the public.
With older people, a matter of months makes a huge difference. An older man can go from very healthy to near death in a matter of months. My mom's been a geriatrics nurse for 20 years and has seen this more than anyone on this forum. His health right this moment may be fine, but what's to say he'll be okay in a year? Don't try saying what's to say any of us will be. Statistically speaking, he has a far higher chance of issues popping up due to age. The best medical care in the world can only help so much.

I don't mean to be rude, and I think there is a great deal about McCain that is impressive, but I honestly think he is the worst political public speaker of his generation. This speech might have had all of the ideas the people wanted to hear--and that's fine--but I think as an exercise of public address it was awful.
Sorry.

The problem with McCain, his speech, and the entire GOP convention is this:
They aren't offering a single solution to anyone's problems while they're out there. All they can do is criticize, attack, and otherwise belittle Barack Obama and Joe Biden, demonize the media, and otherwise ignore the middle-class. What the hell happened to Richard Nixon's "silent majority," the part of the GOP that actually wanted to help support the people who form the largest base of the party?
Lets face facts guys: The GOP of today is not the same party that we had eight years ago. The McCain of today is far from the otherwise honorable Senator we had eight years ago.
If this is a campaign of ideas in the pursuit of true and lasting change, it seems very clear that the GOP and John McCain are out of them.

The difference:
In 8 years John Mccain will be 80. A lot of people are not fully functioning at that age. Everyday life becomes a lot harder.
In 8 years Obama will still be black. No worse off because of it, possibly BETTER in a more socially acceptable climate.
Being black is not equivalent to being unable to control your bladder or remember you childhood.

John McCain is old. He might go senile. He may also die- because he's old.
Obama is black. He's already been the target of assassination and there are tons of racists and nutty people in this country. He may also die- because he's black.
My point is I think it's ridiculous to not vote for either candidate based on either of these things. They're both things you should keep in mind but should NOT be the deciding factor. They're both the same scenarios. Something MIGHT happen. Thats not a reason to not vote for him. In that sense its the same thing.No. In that sense it still isn't the same thing.
The average life expectancy in 2007 for a male in the United States was 75. Old age is inevitable. Going senile is even more likely in high pressure situations. Being assasinated as a black president is unlikely. Highly.

You can die of the flu, and you can die of the plague. That doesn't mean having the flu is anything like having the plague.
You have some serious tunnel vision here.

I wholeheartedly agree with him (Phatlip). I think he's absolutely right. That the chances of being assassinated based on race are the same as going senile in your 70s? Okay then. As I said, I am done with this. I disagree, and see that there is obviously no way of rationalizing with you.

1) Name calling
2) Making fun of a typo I made.
You're doing this instead of addressing my previous claim. I take that as a sign that you're agitated because you can't think of a good rebuttal to my argument.
Honestly, name calling in an innocent conversation? You said me saying "we" (a typo) didn't help my cause yet you're calling names. RIGHT! Thats not helping MY cause but does nothing to your argument.
Newsflash! You just flushed it down the toilet.Your only rebuttal so far has been "Either way bad things can happen" and that isn't what I'm debating. So I really don't know how else to respond.

Then you need to work on better communicating with people. You don't call someone names when you don't know how to respond.I need to work on communicating better? Did I not just mention how you keep responding to my posts with things I'm not trying to debate? Thats bad communication. Calling you crazy is just calling it like I see it. Your argument here is irrational.
Just because A and B can both lead to C doesn't mean they are the same thing.

Yes. If your method of communication is calling someone a name when you don't know what to say you need to work on better communication.I refuse to respond. Starting now. This is just silly. You don't make sense. Feel free to take the last word.
No real need to argue when we've list sight of what we were debating.
