I am writing a research paper about the rhetoric of the new strain of atheists--Hitchens, dawkins, etc. I am looking for some source material--specifically audio /and or video of people giving speeches or presentations about the subject. For instance, there is/was a company that used to go to tech conferences and tape everything so that people could listen to podcasts of it later. There was a famous techie (name escapes me) who gave a presentation about why he shouldn't have to "be tolerant" of mythical beliefs (e.g. Christianity)> that's the kind of stuff I need. Does anyone recall the company I am talking about?

Hello professor,

I have only listened to a few podcasts from the skepticality website, so far I have not heard any information specifically about atheism.

However, depending on the scope of your paper, I may be able to help you.

I listen to Dr. William Lane Craig's podcasts. Dr. Craig is a Christian Philosopher and Theologian at the Talbot School of Theology (http://www.talbot.edu/).
http://www.talbot.edu/faculty/faculty_profiles/profile.cfm?n=william_craig

Dr. Craig discusses and argues for various philosophical arguments for the existence of God. Including, but not limited to, the Cosmological Argument, the Teleological Argument, the Moral Argument, the historicity of Jesus's resurrection. Also, he provides a defense against Atheism's best (or one of the best) arguments -- the Problem of Evil.

He, obviously, is an intellectual opponent to the new atheist movement, and he is not impressed with the new round of books.

This is what he says in his podcast titled "The New Atheism"
"I think this [new atheism] is a defensive backlash of a wounded animal frankly..."

http://www.reasonablefaith.org/site/PageServer?pagename=podcasting_main

Go to the section titled "Reasonable Faith Podcast"
The podcast I am talking about is labeled:
2007/11/27 The "New Atheism"

I've heard from other Craig podcasts that Dr. Craig is more impressed with the atheist philosopher Dr. Quentin Smith. (http://www.qsmithwmu.com/). Don't quote me on that though.

Thanks, and this looks like a good source, but isn't it. The guy was on TWiT a lot early on.

This is great. Thanks

Here is some more stuff.

Sam Harris -- a "New Atheist" -- (http://www.samharris.org/) is on skepticality. The problem is that the audio quality is not very good. :(

01/02/2007 Skepticality #043 - Skeptic's Caltech Lecture Series: Sam Harris

I also found a discussion/debate between Dr. Alister Mcgrath (http://users.ox.ac.uk/~mcgrath/) -- a professor of Historical Theology -- and Dr. Richard Dawkins (http://richarddawkins.net/) -- a professor of Ethology, and Evolutionary Biology. Both are from Oxford.

Here is 1/15.
