View Full Version : Xp Vs. Ubuntu

Hey guys. I have kind of an old very basic Dell computer and its about that time to zero it out again and start from scratch. My question is do I load Ubuntu or XP onto it? (I dont want to do a dual boot) Heres my setup (dont laugh)...
DELL DIMENSION 2400
Intel Celeron 2393 mhz
512mb ram
40 Gig HD
(Intel Graphics Chip)
Im gonna post a poll, please fill it in as this has been a debate for a lot of people. Thanks!!!

Unless there are some specific apps that you need Windows for, I'd recommend Ubuntu. It'll run much better on that hardware.

haha well im buying a macbook as soon as they update so no worries. I really only use my pc for internet video an basic games from popcap.com

Aha! You want to use teh internets. Go for ubuntu! It's so god damn script-kiddie now that even a 10 year old can install it. You're in luck, it's an intel GPU, which means that it'll actually work (unlike ATi cards).
Is the macbook going to be your primary machine?
Either operating system is fine for those specs. I would recommend going for Ubuntu. If you need XP at a later stage then install it as a virtual machine (ie Parallels, VMWare, VirtualBox) on your new Mac.

Ubuntu will probably run much better and last longer on that machine.
