Can ipods play music other than songs from iTunes, like MP3s from my ripped CD's and various P2P programs?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, but iTunes has to be used to import the songs.

Is stupid to harsh for this question. Perhaps. It's an honest question but a quick scan of the iPod web site (http://www.apple.com/ipod/sync.html) answers the question.
Shop for music, movies, games, TV shows, and audiobooks on the built-in iTunes Store, download free podcasts, or import songs from your CDs.
The iPod can play any MP3 file that is not protected by some sort of DRM.

Yes, but iTunes has to be used to import the songs.ITunes might be the best, and easiest option for managing what is on your iPod, but its not the only solution.
Having said that, I moved all my music from Windows Media Player 10 to iTunes just for the convenience of using iTunes, but it is still possible to add/remove music (MP3 and AAC formats - *not* WMV, WMA, WAV, OGG, etc) just by drag/drop to the iPod once it is mounted as a drive.

But if this guy is asking if he can rip a CD and put it on his iPod, do you really think we should even bring up something more difficult that takes more work and knowledge of the product...? ;)

But if this guy is asking if he can rip a CD and put it on his iPod, do you really think we should even bring up something more difficult that takes more work and knowledge of the product...? ;)As I said, iTunes is the best way to do it, but he also mentioned P2P networks ... and other formats often float around, so its not as simple as a CD rip to MP3 format.
