oud router

I hope this is the right place to post this. i recently started using an old router and want to upgrade the firmware. trouble is, there is no specific hardware version listed on the router. Is there some way to figure it out with software ? It is a linksys bfsr41, may not be exact but close enough.

Do you have access to the firmware currently installed? Can you view the status to try and get the model number?

I am guesing he means the Linksys BEFSR41 (http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&c=L_Product_C2&cid=1122062340941&childpagename=US/Layout) - A Cable Modem/Router Combination device.

Go to the web page I linked, follow the "Firmware Upgrade" instructions.

No sticker? Then log into the router (hook an ethernet cable to it, try pointing a web browser at 192.168.0.1, user name admin, password root) and get the version there.

Can login? Try reseting the router (should be arest button on back - you'll need to stick a pen in the hole to trip the switch).

I do not think that router has had any updates in several years. Might be time to think about getting a new one.
